Fernando Torres: Sergio Agüero Would Have Scored Four, but Torres Cost Chelsea
Firstly, shout out to former Manchester United and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich, who accurately and boldly predicted Manchester United to win 3-1.
It was an entertaining game with missed opportunities of the gilt-edged kind.
Luck was not on Wayne Rooney's quest for third successive hat-trick when he slipped in David Beckham-esq fashion from 12 yards out, and then hit the post later in the game.
Ramires couldn't score from several yards out.
Dimitar Berbatov couldn't convert 1-on-1.
And... Fernando Torres. Chelsea supporters should not cling onto the satisfaction on one goal, why didn't he score four?
Sergio Agüero would have scored four.
How on earth did he not score from pretty much unmissable range? The miss of the season.
Let's examine Torres' performance.
World Class Finish
1 of 6What a finish from Fernando Torres. That is a finish from a £50 million valued forward.
Though what an incisive pass from Nicolas Anelka, who according to Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas, is set to leave Stamford Bridge.
However, how accurate was Torres' shooting? Find out on the next slide.
Sergio Agüero vs. Fernando Torres
2 of 6- Sergio Agüero vs. Fulham: 75 percent shooting accuracy
- Fernando Torres vs. Manchester United: 33 percent shooting accuracy
Agüero finished a one on one as expected whereas Torres did what he did.
Agüero scored a goal out of nothing whereas Torres shot off target four times inside the box.
Agüero has scored seven goals and provided one assist in five games, whereas Torres has scored two goals and provided three assists in 23 games.
Agüero cost £38 million. Torres cost £50 million.
Chelsea were so close to signing Agüero, but for whatever reason, the move fell through.
""They [Chelsea] have become one of the most feared in Europe over recent years. London would be a really amazing city to live in as well -- myself and my wife could be really happy there.—Agüero in April 2010"
"
Liverpool really screwed Chelsea big time.
Fernando Torres' Passing
3 of 6It's remarkable that for a guy who criticised his own teammates for slowing down play, Fernando Torres indulges in slowing down play himself.
Too many backward and pointless passes for my liking.
Carry the ball and charge forward like a £50 million valued forward.
In the 25th minute, Torres would have accumulated his third assist in two games when somehow, just somehow Ramires could not score from several yards out.
Though keep in mind, it was Juan Mata who split the Manchester United defence.
Where Is the Brilliance of £50 Million Valued Forward?
4 of 6In the fourth minute, Chircharito gifts the ball to Fernando Torres, but why couldn't the Spaniard beat Johnny Evans, who during the week was turned by Óscar Cardozo, who has no pace whatsoever?
In the 11th minute, Anderson gifts the ball to Torres, but why couldn't the Spaniard at least test David de Gea who, coming into the game, had made three mistakes in five games?
In the 22nd minute, why couldn't Torres take Phil Jones to school like he used to take Nemanja Vidić to school for Liverpool?
Let's just not mention that miss. Though to be fair, brilliant skill from Torres. But hey, if you can't score, there's no point. It's like Arsenal having 80 percent of possession and losing 1-0.
Fernando Torres' Confidence
5 of 6After his world class finish, Fernando Torres' confidence was back.
He demanded the ball, he was making tackles, he was pressuring, and in the 82nd minute his brilliant individual play got him into a him vs. the empty net situation—and yes... he, er, didn't score.
I daresay his confidence is at an all-time low after this miss, but it really should be for his misses.
If he converted his chances like Sergio Agüero, when Manchester United weren't killing the game, Chelsea could have won 4-3.
Concluding Comments
6 of 6£50 million for two goals in 23 games.
I sugarcoated his performance against Bayer Leverkusen because in my eyes, two assists were as good as two goals.
However, it was a massive concern to me that he couldn't manufacture his own shot and he couldn't do it against a very inexperienced Leverkusen centre back pairing of Ömer Toprak and Stefan Reinartz, during which Toprak was making his European debut.
Imagine what Sergio Agüero would have done.
Also, Fernando Torres is so reliant on his midfielders, the same ones he criticized as being slow, to be very generous to him.
Without them, Torres can't survive.
How about Agüero?
He can score goals out of nothing.
In this game, Nani did what a £50 million should have done.
Daniel Sturridge is forced to play out of position, and Romelu Lukaku can't even make the UEFA Champions League squad all because of Torres.
Anzhi Makhachkala please give Chelsea a S.O.S and buy Torres for £50 million.
