Boxing: Garbage Victory Proves Floyd Mayweather Jr's Career Is over

Donald WoodSep 18, 2011

Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have beat Victor Ortiz on Saturday night in the MGM Grand, but his actions in the ring speak volumes about where the new WBC Welterweight champion is mentally.

After a blatant head butt from Ortiz that cost him a point, Ortiz apologized to Mayweather for the lack of good judgment and received two shots to the head that knocked the 24-year-old out.

Judging by the referee’s face, the move was legal, but extremely frowned upon, and considered by many to be the easy way out of what was going to be the toughest fight of Money’s life.

"We touched gloves and we were back to fighting and then I threw the left and right hand after the break. In the ring you have to protect yourself at all times. He did something dirty when it was his corner who said I was dirty, but I won the fight."

"

Mayweather has become completely delusional to the fact that he was getting physically hurt by the youngster, and his punches were doing little damage. As soon as the poor sport saw the opening to cheat, he took it and made sure his undefeated streak remained intact.

I lost my mind watching the lack of class Mayweather had, but Ortiz did initiate the contact with his head butt, and after the fight Ortiz was not as angry as I thought he would be.

"

"I took the break by the referee and I obeyed exactly as I was told. And then, boom, he blindsided me. There's two ways to look at it but as far as I was concerned I came here to entertain the fans and I think they were entertained. There was a miscommunication with the referee but nobody is perfect and this was a learning experience."

"

Many say that Ortiz deserved his fate, but the fight was turning into a slug-fest and Mayweather was winning on the cards. Ortiz was starting to rattle Money’s cage, and the man was scared.

Ortiz was executing the type of fight he wanted to, and up until the cheap shots, there was a 50/50 chance at picking the winner.

There is no doubt that Ortiz was wrong to head butt Mayweather, but Money stepped way out of line by sneaking his opponent to avoid the long haul of the fight he saw on the horizon.
