Mayweather vs Ortiz Live Stream: Fight Preview, TV Schedule, Website and More

Tim DanielsSep 17, 2011

Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz will battle it out in the most hyped bout of the year. Mayweather is the heavy favorite according to the oddsmakers, but Ortiz is coming off the biggest win of his career against Andre Berto in April.

Mayweather is 41-0 in his illustrious career, with his last win coming over Shane Mosley. While Pretty Boy has 25 knockouts on his résumé, just one of his past six fights have ended in that fashion. Money has become more of an opportunistic boxer over the past handful of years.

The fight everybody has been waiting for is Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao. It was thought that the former's win over Mosley would setup the biggest draw in modern day boxing, but legal woes and jabs through the media caused talks to break off.

Perhaps if both men win their respective bouts this fall, the match everybody has been waiting for will finally materialize. Time is running out, however.

Ortiz hadn't had a marquee win until he beat Berto by unanimous decision. He's 29-2-2 and is hoping to give his career a huge boost with a positive result against Mayweather. Ortiz has won his previous two fights at the MGM Grand, but has never been a part of a main event of this caliber.

Despite being a heavy underdog, Ortiz seemed confident about his chances at the weigh-in. He'll need to bring his best gameplan to the ring on Saturday or he'll go down in flames against one of the greatest fighters of the era.

Where: MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

When: Saturday, Sept. 17 after 11:30 p.m. EDT

Watch: HBO PPV(USA), Primetime (UK), Televisa (Mexico)

Keys to a Floyd Mayweather Win

Mayweather knows Ortiz is going to come out strong as he tries to go for an early knockout. Money will need to maintain a defensive posture in the early going while he waits for Ortiz to wear himself out. As the rounds go on, Ortiz will begin to tire and open himself up for more counterattacks.

It's important for Mayweather to maintain the same composure he's had throughout his first 41 bouts. With the Pacquiao situation hanging over his head, he might try to do too much and cause himself an embarrassing defeat. He just has to sit back and let the fight come to him.

At the end of the day, Mayweather is the better fighter and is the rightful heavy favorite. Unless there is an unexpected turn of events, Pretty Boy will win the majority of the rounds and ease his way to his 42nd victory in a row.

Keys to a Victor Ortiz Win

Ortiz knows he's not expected to win, so his camp has likely been pumping him full of underdog thoughts throughout the week. He'll have a chip on his shoulder going into the bout, but unless he's aggressive from the opening bell, it won't matter.

Beating Berto was a good step in the right direction, but Berto is no Mayweather—he's not even in the same ballpark. Ortiz will have to take his game to the next level for 12 rounds to have a chance. Unless he gets a lucky swing in and knocks Mayweather out, he'll have to go the distance to win.

Mayweather is coming off a layoff of more than a year, so the early rounds will be key. If Ortiz can come out swinging and force Mayweather to defend right away, not allowing him to ease into the match, there's a chance he can shock the world. A small chance, a fighter's chance, but a chance none the less.

Prediction: Floyd Mayweather by unanimous decision
