USA vs. Canada: 3 Causes for Concern for the U.S.
The US Women's national team and the Canadian national team played to a 1-1 tie today, with the U.S. showing cause for concern.
Here are the the three main worries for the U.S. team after their lackluster showing today.
Canada was sans their best player
The U.S. wasn't able to beat the Canadian team even though they were with out their star player Christine Sinclair, which put the Canadian team at a disadvantage from the get-go.
Showing the inability to beat a team that is weaker on paper in play without their main star is a serious red flag—even though it was just an exhibition, and most of the call-ups had just finished their WPS seasons, and probably had one eye on a break after a busy summer.
The Same Team from the World Cup Finals Didn't Look Sharp
The U.S. roster was the same team that played in the final two games of the World Cup, and didn't look to be in sync, like they were during their World Cup Run.
With the team looking so jumbled, so close to their World Cup appearance, questions needed to be asked. It can't be good for a team looking to get it's confidence back after a heart breaking loss.
Team Combinations Didn't Go Smoothly
One of the main functions for the U.S. in the friendly was to test out different line ups, which did not go smoothly whatsoever.
Sure it was one of the first times these new line ups were tested, you would expect more form a team that has had organized practices together in order to prepare for the match.
