Floyd Mayweather: Money Will Decimate Victor Ortiz En Route to Decision Victory

Mike ChiariJun 1, 2018

Despite the fact that many are expecting him to lose tonight and most of the money in Las Vegas is going against him, "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather will prove tonight that he is still the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing when he beats "Vicious" Victor Ortiz.

A few short years ago, Mayweather was the toast of the boxing world, but after a number of "retirements," many boxing fans seem to have turned their backs on him. Instead, they have embraced Manny Pacquiao who has inherited Mayweather's title as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Mayweather has been blamed for putting a halt to the dream fight between he and Pacquiao due to his insistence that he receive a bigger percentage of the gate and that Olympic-style drug testing be used prior to the bout. While this may be true, it doesn't change the fact that Mayweather has squashed every challenge ever put in front of him.

Ortiz is a solid, young, up-and-coming fighter who will pose a test, but he possesses nothing that Mayweather hasn't seen before. His southpaw fighting stance has proved problematic for some fighters, but an unorthodox style won't fool a battle-tested veteran like Mayweather.

One area in which Ortiz has a decided advantage is in punching power. While Mayweather has posted his fair share of TKO wins over the course of his storied career, it isn't his tried-and-true method for winning fights. Ortiz, on the other hand, has won by TKO in 22 of his 29 victories.

Unlike Mayweather, Ortiz isn't the type of fighter that excels at frustrating and nickel-and-diming his opponents. If Ortiz wants to win this fight, then his only chance is to end it before it goes to the scorecards. Ortiz has knocked down every opponent he has ever faced regardless of his two career losses and two career draws.

Mayweather has never been legitimately knocked down, though, so something has to give. Unfortunately for Ortiz, he can't hit what he can't catch. Mayweather is still among the quickest boxers in the sport and has unmatched defensive skills.

He also has a very underrated chin as he has absorbed a couple big blows during his career without going down. As long as Mayweather can withstand the early barrage Ortiz is likely to unleash upon him, it should be smooth sailing throughout the fight.

Mayweather is a smart fighter who understands what it takes to win rounds. Ortiz may be a more dangerous fighter than Mayweather, but Floyd is unquestionably the better boxer. Look for this one to go the distance with Mayweather winning big by unanimous decision.
