Tyler Bray or Aaron Murray: Which QB Has Brighter SEC Future?
For sophomore SEC quarterbacks Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray, each game becomes more important than the last when trying to mature in college football's best conference.
Also, in being that both are in the SEC East, they've already met once as freshman and will meet this season, next season and so on.
Last season Georgia's Aaron Murray bested Tennessee's Tyler Bray and the Bulldogs defeated the Volunteers 41-14 in Athens.
So with that in mind, which QB has the brighter future in the SEC?
Well let's break it all down and then come to a solid conclusion at the end.
In 2010 Bray compiled 1,849 yards with a 55.8 completion percentage and connected on 18 touchdowns. However, the Tennessee sophomore was also intercepted 10 times.
Bray played in only nine of Tennesee's 13 games, but he finished with have a 4-4 record despite starting out 0-3.
In two games this year, Bray has thrown seven TDs to zero picks, amassed 698 yards on 51 completions, and has a completion percentage of 78.5.
So, it's safe to say he's quickly built on 2010 this year and will continue to improve as his college career progresses.
Now, let's look at Georgia's Aaron Murray.
A year ago Murray threw for over 3,000 yards, connected with 24 touchdowns and only threw eight interceptions.
Murray had the luxury of now NFL pro receiver A.J. Green lined-up outside, but hasn't fallen off track without his monster receiver in 2011.
Through the first two games of the season, he totaled 484 yards on 35 completions, has a completion percentage of 60.3 and has accounted for six TDs, but also two interceptions.
That being said, although Bray's numbers in 2011 are in fact better, the Volunteers haven't played near the level of competition that the Bulldogs have through their first two games.
Tennessee played Montana (FCS school) and Cincinnati (4-8 in 2010 from the Big East) both at home, whereas Georgia dueled with No. 4 Boise State (close to home) and No. 10 South Carolina (on the road).
Therefore, based on the 2010 numbers, and the 2011 strength of schedule through two games Georgia's Aaron Murray gets the nod as having the brighter SEC future.
However, Tyler Bray also has a very bright future in Tennessee and it will be very interesting to watch when these two go head-to-head on the field at Neyland Stadium in early October.
