TNA: Things That Went Well on Impact Last Night

David LevinSep 16, 2011

Well, Well, Well. I am hoping there is more of where this came from.

Impact last night was solid. I mean, it started out great and continued to roll and picked up steam as the show progressed.

Yes, following a major PPV event, that is exactly what the company should do.

No real hiccups. No real uneasy moments. Everything flowed well.

And it looks like there are new battles on the horizon.

Yes, things will get interesting for the next few weeks before Bound for Glory.

Here is what was great about the show and things that could be better.

Bobby Roode Got His Due Respect

1 of 6

If TNA is focused on building for the future, they found the horse to do it with.

Roode is good looking, well-spoken and has the drive (like Arn Anderson) to make this happen.

It was fitting that his Fortune teammates lauded over him as he was told how he deserved his due.

The Daniels thing has to stop, which leads me to believe he will shortly leave the group (he does face Roode next week).

Also watch for James Storm to possibly turn heel.

Storm said he wished it was him but gave his tag team partner props for a well-fought tournament.

Sting vs. Flair Looked Good...in the Beginning

2 of 6

I have to admit that the two men in the ring did not excite me when they first came to the ring. Jawing back and forth at each other was not as cool as I wanted it to be.

Then, they finally came to the ring and although Flair is over 60, there was some magic. Some of the older style and the combat came back. I tried to picture it as a match 10 years ago.

It did not deliver that way, but it was still better than I thought.

Until Immortal got involved and then it sucked.

Look for Hogan to turn on Flair now that he could not get the job done. Does this mean Sting and Flair unite to rid the company of Hogan? What a great idea.

Angle Getting in the Minds of the Members of Fortune

3 of 6

When Kurt Angle announced that members of Fortune would face him week after week to test his will and the will of the stable, it was pure genius. What better way to create rivalries, a sense of doubt and, of course, a heel turn for James Storm.

Storm, when he praised his tag team partner, even said he wished it was him. And of course Angle got into the head of Kazarian (which was great to see him back in the ring) that he could be the next world champion.

It plays out well for Roode, Angle and the members of Fortune. We should see if there will be dissension in the ranks, which of course, there will be.

And the match between Kazarian and Roode was solid!

Knockouts Tournament? Where Have I Heard This Before?

4 of 6

Wow, they finally listened to me.

Well, I would like to think so. Winter vs. Mickie James was old and stale, so they came up with another way to impress us with women in the ring.

The idea of having a tournament to determine a No. 1 contender for the Knockout’s Title is a great idea (I swear I have said that on a few occasions). And while I don’t like Karen Jarrett involved in this, three matches of that caliber that have been drawn up will quench my thirst for a few weeks.

At least I get to see Velvet Sky, Brooke Tessmacher and Tara in the ring.

I am curious, however, why ODB and Jackie were not included in the tournament.

Samoa Joe vs. Matt Morgan Has Some Real Heat to It

5 of 6

Could these guys really dislike each other?

It seems that way.

The idea of putting to bullies together like this works. The fans like it and, of course, it means there is some mileage in this type of feud.

And with Crimson returning, does it mean the two towers of wrestling will from an alliance against Joe and others in pursuit of tag team gold?

And Finally...No Eric Young This Week

6 of 6

There, had to say it. No Eric Young for a change is a good thing.

Maybe creative will get it through their heads and come up with a tournament to crown a new champion.

But we all have been hoping for that for some time.
