WWE Night of Champions: 10 Bold Predictions for the Upcoming PPV
We're only two days away from WWE Night of Champions, and it has the potential to be a decent show.
Obviously we're not talking SummerSlam or Money in the Bank good—I mean, Mark Henry is wrestling for the World Heavyweight Championship—but it should be a quality pay-per-view.
This is largely due to the hype for CM Punk vs. Triple H, and what should be a very good WWE Championship match between Alberto Del Rio and John Cena.
Of course, there's always the possibility that the WWE screws this one up royally, and that we're left with nothing but disappointment when the show's over.
I, however, think the company can avoid that by shocking us rather than simply going with the obvious on Sunday.
So, how do they do that?
Well, here are 10 BOLD predictions, some of which might just make Night of Champions worth the money.
10. No Feud Will Be Resolved at the Pay-Per-View
1 of 10When two pay-per-views are separated by just 14 days, the WWE loves to give us shady endings at the first PPV that will allow for rematches at the second one.
The company is notorious for doing this. I guess the thought is that the creative team doesn't want to work on building up new rivalries with only two episodes of Raw and SmackDown to do so.
As a result, no matches on the first show will have any sort of resolution whatsoever. With only two weeks between Night of Champions and Hell in a Cell, I'd fully expect that to happen.
Hardly any clean finishes, no statement-making victories and lots of controversial endings.
That way the WWE can have the blowoff match to most of these feuds at Hell in a Cell, which makes sense considering blowoff bouts often come in gimmick matches.
9. Jack Swagger Will Officially Turn Face
2 of 10How long have we waited for this?
When Jack Swagger was paired with Michael Cole around WrestleMania time, many of us thought that Cole's belittling of Swagger would lead to the All-American American eventually turning face.
Naturally, though, the creative team completely dropped the ball on that one, and Swagger's mostly been booked like a complete d-bag mid-carder since then.
At least now, however, he's getting some TV time, and is involved in a feud with Dolph Ziggler—even though it's been booked like crap—over who Vickie Guerrero will manage.
With the way these two have been arguing/fighting, it's almost a certainty that either Swagger or Ziggler will turn face.
I think it'll be Swagger, because his All-American American gimmick can work better as a fac,e and Ziggler's been booked more like a heel during their little rivalry.
8.Kane/Big Show Will Return and Cost Mark Henry His Match Against Randy Orton
3 of 10There are two ways the creative team cannot script the World Heavyweight Championship match between Mark Henry and Randy Orton.
1. Orton cannot lose cleanly.
2. Henry cannot look weak.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Orton take the clean pin from Henry here, but you know that's not happening. On the other hand, having Henry lose clean would kill all the momentum he's built up over the last several months.
So, how do you solve this problem? You have someone interfere and cost Henry the match.
Given that Henry sidelined Kane and The Big Show, they're both perfect candidates to interrupt the World title bout and allow Orton to get the win.
7. Kelly Kelly Will Get a Clean Victory over Beth Phoenix
4 of 10I don't want to see this happen, and it shouldn't. But Kelly Kelly beating Beth Phoenix clean is a very real possibility.
My theory is this: We all know that Vince McMahon and the creative team love to break up tag teams/duos shortly after they form, so a loss for Beth here would lead to the inevitable breakup of the Divas of Doom.
Let's say that Beth loses at Night of Champions—which takes place in her hometown of Buffalo, and classic WWE booking says its superstars lose when wrestling in front of their home crowd—and Natalya becomes the next No. 1 contender for the Divas Championship.
Eventually, Natalya beats Kelly Kelly to win the title, Beth gets jealous, turns on Natalya and those two feud over the Divas title for a while.
If all that's going to happen, it will start with Beth losing clean on Sunday and going to the back of the line.
6. John Cena Loses to Alberto Del Rio
5 of 10What? John Cena losing on his third straight pay-per-view?
You betcha.
I won't go as far as saying that Cena will lose to Alberto Del Rio clean, especially when you consider that he really didn't lose clean to Punk at Money in the Bank or SummerSlam.
But I do think that Cena will lose thanks to interference from Ricardo Rodriguez, especially after the way Cena embarrassed him on Monday's Raw.
It's typical WWE booking to have the heel win with a dirty finish, and I think that's exactly what we'll see happen at Night of Champions.
Come on, you're crazy if you think Cena's taking the clean pin here. He'll lose with a shady finish and get another WWE title match at Hell in a Cell.
5. No Titles Will Change Hands
6 of 10How boring would it be to watch a pay-per-view with zero title changes? Yeah, very boring.
Unfortunately, when I look at the card, I can definitely see it happening. Here's why:
1. Alberto Del Rio will likely beat John Cena with the help of Ricardo Rodriguez.
2. Mark Henry will lose to Randy Orton after interference from Big Show or Kane.
3. Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne are going to retain the tag team titles because they're the more permanent tag team.
4. Kelly Kelly needs a clean win as champion.
5. The only real threat to Dolph Ziggler is Jack Swagger.
6. Cody Rhodes doesn't even had an Intercontinental title match scheduled.
Doesn't seem so crazy, now does it?
4. The Gradual Face Turn of the Miz Begins
7 of 10While many of you may disagree with me on this, I think that The Miz has gotten popular enough with the fans to effectively pull off a face turn.
As much as he's been hated, you can tell that the live crowd is usually really into whatever he's saying when he cuts a promo, and he's such a good talker that I think the fans could definitely get behind him.
Granted, The Miz just formed a heel tag team with R-Truth less than a month ago, but we all know how these pairings tend to end up: With one of the two stars turning face.
You would think it would be Truth given his comedic role, but he's been a mediocre baby face for most of his career. The Miz, on the other hand, has never been a face.
I think that we'll see that start to change on Sunday, when The Miz's baby face antics gradually start to creep out.
Perhaps they do so when Triple H proves that he really does have a conspiracy against The Miz, and the Awesome One revolts against the boss.
3. Stephanie McMahon Will Be Revealed as One Who Cut off CM Punk's Microphone
8 of 10One person who has been conspicuously absent from the ongoing main event angle on Raw is Stephanie McMahon.
After making a couple of backstage appearances with CM Punk, she's been nowhere to be found. But make no mistake about it—Stephanie will turn out to be a huge player in what's going on between Punk, Kevin Nash and Triple H.
I think that, ultimately, she is the one pulling strings behind the scenes to get back at Punk for essentially costing Vince McMahon his position as WWE Chairman.
In fact, it would make a ton of sense for it to be revealed that Stephanie is the person who cut Punk's microphone off at the end of Raw.
It would fit in with Punk saying that Triple H "wears his wife's panties", and cause some tension between Triple H and Stephanie, but it wouldn't necessarily mean that Stephanie is siding with Punk (because she cut his mic off).
She's clearly siding with Vince McMahon, thus igniting a three-way feud between Vince/Stephanie, Triple H and Punk.
2. Kevin Nash Will NOT Help Triple H Get the Victory over CM Punk
9 of 10Every time I get on Bleacher Report, or any wrestling site for that matter, I see that the widespread expectation is that Kevin Nash will return at Night of Champions and help Triple H beat CM Punk.
Too obvious...and Vince McMahon hates the obvious.
Nash really doesn't need to return at the PPV, especially when there are a thousand different ways to book the finish without involving Nash.
After all, if Nash does return and aid Triple H on his way to victory, what is that doing for the fans? Nothing, unless you consider going with the most obvious solution something.
I think Vince McMahon, who is notorious for changing storylines when they leak on the Internet, will do just that on Sunday.
1. CM Punk Will Beat Triple H, Who Won't Resign as C.O.O.
10 of 10How about this for a swerve? Kevin Nash returns and actually helps CM Punk beat Triple H, but Triple H goes back on his word and refuses to resign as WWE C.O.O.
Remember that Triple H and Punk signed the contract for their match before adding the two stipulations, so technically speaking, Triple H doesn't have to quit as C.O.O. if he loses.
Does the WWE even remember that? Probably not, but it would be awesome if it did.
Triple H could officially turn heel in this case, and would start generating major heat for being a coward who straight up lied to the fans.
