UFC 136: Does a Win Earn Melvin Guillard a Title Shot?
Melvin Guillard is arguably one of the greatest knockout artists to have ever stepped foot inside the Octagon.
His explosiveness is second to none and the excitement he brings to each of his bouts has caught the eyes of many UFC fans across the globe.
Guillard is enjoying the greatest stretch of his career, having won five straight fights, defeating notable opponents such as Jeremy Stephens, Evan Dunham and Shane Roller.
While Guillard is witnessing success, it hasn't always been butterflies and rainbows for him.
According to MMAMania.com, Guillard tested positive for cocaine after his fight with Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9. He was later suspended for eight months and it appeared that his career was coming to an end.
After his suspension, "The Young Assassin" was submitted in his first fight back by Rich Clementi at UFC 79.
Guillard, who could have easily thrown in the towel, turned his life around.
He won his next three fights, defeating Eric Regan, Dennis Siver and Gleison Tibau. His next bout came in a loss at the hands of Nate Diaz by submission at a Fight Night in September of 2009.
Since the defeat, Guillard has defeated every opponent that's come his way. Of his five straight victories, three of them have been first-round knockouts.
Guillard, who's overcome more adversity than most can imagine, has matured and has established himself as one of the most explosive fighters in the UFC today.
What's more, he's made it clear several times now that he wants and deserves a lightweight title shot.
Does a win at UFC 136 earn Melvin Guillard a title shot? Yes.
Guillard has proved time and time again that he deserves and is ready for a shot at gold.
