TNA Impact Wrestling Preview: Sting vs. Ric Flair One More Time

Kyle SchadlerSep 15, 2011

TNA’s biggest show of the year, Bound for Glory, is a month away and tonight’s episode of Impact Wrestling is the next step in the shaping of the card. This past Sunday, Bobby Roode won the Bound for Glory Series and the main event was set for the pay-per-view.

For the first time in quite some time, TNA hasn’t confirmed much for the show. Usually they’ll announce a few matches and segments, but tonight they only confirm one match and what is sure to be an in-ring segment. Here’s what’s on tap for tonight.

Kurt Angle reacts to Bobby Roode winning the Bound for Glory Series

This past Sunday at So Surrender, the summer long tournament came to an end when Bobby Roode defeated Bully Ray to win the BFGS. Roode will now get the opportunity to challenge Kurt Angle for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Bound for Glory.

Roode has been with TNA since day one, mostly as a mid-carder and tag-team wrestler. That’s nine years of not winning any single’s title TNA had to offer. At Bound for Glory, Roode will finally get his chance.

Kurt Angle, though, has been on a role this year. He bested Jeff Jarrett in a feud that lasted until the beginning of summer, then defeated Sting for the World Title. As a member of Immortal, this is a must win situation for him. As long as the heel stable has the World Title, they have the control.

How will Kurt Angle react to Roode winning the series and challenging him for the title?

Sting vs. Ric Flair: If Flair wins, Sting must retire; if Sting wins, he gets Hulk Hogan

Weeks before No Surrender, Ric Flair challenged Sting to one more match. It was even Flair that came up with the stipulations for their encounter. Hogan was understandably quite upset with the Nature Boy, but Flair assured him victory.

These two wrestling legends have been doing battle for over 20 years and this looks to be the end of their long rivalry.

This match can go either way. Sting could very well lose thanks to interference from Immortal. Sting will have to call it quits and Hulk Hogan will have won. The most likely scenario, though, is Sting defeating his long-time nemesis tonight. He’ll then go onto Bound for Glory and take on his other long-time nemesis, the Immortal Hulk Hogan.

Who will win? What will happen? We’ll have to wait and see.

While that’s all TNA has confirmed, there are some questions coming out of No Surrender for tonight.

At Sunday’s PPV, Jesse Sorensen defeated Kid Kash to become the No.1 contender for the X-Division Championship. It was great seeing a new, young star get an opportunity like this.

Also at the show, Austin Aries defeated Brian Kendrick to become the new X-Division Champion. Aries has been saying that he’s the best, and he proved that on Sunday.

Will Sorensen get his shot at the title tonight or will he get his opportunity at the biggest show of the year, Bound for Glory?

Winter is your new TNA Knockout’s Champion after defeating Mickie James. She once again used the red mist to get the win. Who will be next in line for a title shot?

While I am a huge fan of Mickie, I hope it’s not her. She’s already had the belt twice, it’s time to give someone else an opportunity.

Will we see a No.1 contenders match or battle royal tonight, or will Karen Jarrett just name a new challenger? Only time will tell.

Mexican America retained the Tag Team Titles against the team of Devon and D’Angelo Dinero. I wasn’t surprised that the newly formed team didn’t win, but will we see them get another shot?

TNA’s tag division has definitely not been as good as it was a few years ago. They need something to give it a boost. Are Mexican America the team to do just that? Will their next challengers help in that quest? Perhaps we’ll find out tonight.

Samoa Joe hasn’t won a match since his feud with D’Angelo Dinero many months ago. At No Surrender, things didn’t change as he was defeated by Matt Morgan.

How will Joe react to his latest lose? Will he get a rematch or just go on another rampage? No matter what happens, Joe needs to get his career back on track.

Finally, we have Jeff Hardy. Last week, he apologized to the fans for the events that happened at Victory Road. He asked for one more chance, then left.

What's next for the Charismatic Enigma? Will the fans indeed give him one more chance? If so, will he take full advantage of that chance or just screw up again?

The road to Bound for Glory is heating up, and tonight we’ll find out if we’ll indeed see Sting vs. Hulk Hogan. If TNA was smart, they’d set up the majority of the matches tonight so that they all have the proper amount of build.

I’d like to see all titles on the line, with some special matches inserted like Sting/Hogan and perhaps a Morgan/Joe rematch. Will it happen? We’ll find out tonight whether or not they go in that kind of direction.
