Week 2 Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em: 3 RB Studs That Need to Ride the Bench

Michael MillJun 2, 2018

Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a full-time starter in the fantasy football world.

When the time is right, every star needs to find the bench against some opponents.

It doesn't matter if that player is Tom Brady or Andre Johnson. When the matchups don't work out in your favor, sometimes it's best to let them take a seat.

Here are three stud running backs who you should seriously consider benching in week two.

Chris Johnson (Tennessee)

It was obvious after Week 1, that Chris Johnson's holdout had really affected his performance to start the season off.

Johnson rushed for only 27 yards on nine carries against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's likely that the Titans will limit the amount of carries Johnson has again in Week 2.

The workload may increase slightly, but I would still only expect about 15 carries. Throw in the fact that those 15 carries will come against a stout Baltimore Ravens defense and it gives you even more reason to stay away.

It may take a few weeks to shake off the rust and Baltimore isn't a team you can expect a rusty running back to put big numbers against.

Jamaal Charles (Kansas City)

There is no question that Jamaal Charles is one of the most talented running backs in the entire league.

I also have a very hard time believing that he will live up to the expectations after last season.

Charles is under utilized in Kansas City, as can be seen by his low amount of carries every week. Even last season, Charles had less carries than almost every top tier running back in the league.

This season started out on a similar foot. In Week 1 Charles received only ten carries.

A low amount of carries along with a talented front four in Detroit could result in a slow week for the Chiefs' running back.

Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville)

After a tough season last year Maurice Jones-Drew got off to a solid start in week one rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown.

However, there are a few teams that no running back should start against. The New York Jets are one of those teams.

New York will likely leave eight men in the box to stop the running game of the Jaguars. Jones-Drew will be lucky to finish the day with 75 yards and will probably fail to reach the end zone.
