Corporate Sponsorships That Don't Exist in Sports, But Should

Ron ClementsJun 5, 2018

I've always believed that some things belong together: peanut butter and jelly, cereal and milk, steak and potatoes, nuts and bolts, beer and pizza—you get the idea.

So why not transfer that same thought into sports? Corporate sponsorships in sports have run amok, but there are still some obvious omissions.

Dodge Trucks and the St. Louis Rams

1 of 7

Dodge has always maintained that their trucks are “Ram Tough,” so how is this a deal that’s not in place? St. Louis-area Dodge dealers have been a Rams sponsor in the past and it’s time to re-up on that deal because it’s kind of a no-brainer perfect fit.

Dodger Charger and the San Diego Chargers

2 of 7

Again, a no-brainer. How is this not a perfect marriage of names? The Charger and the Chargers.

Somebody in the most wonderful metropolitan U.S. city, please make this happen. It only makes sense.

The Dodge Charger: The official vehicle of the San Diego Chargers.

Nissan Titan and the Tennessee Titans

This is just going to be repetitive (see the Chargers slide). The Music City needs to make the Nissan Titan the official truck of the Tennessee Titans.

Chevy Avalanche and the Colorado Avalanche

4 of 7

Not only is the Chevy Avalanche a cool-looking and versatile truck—and one of my favorites—it’s also the perfect match for the Denver team that plays the “coolest sport” in the world.

The Chevy Avalanche: The official truck of the Colorado Avalanche.

Ford Ranger and the Texas Rangers and the New York Rangers

5 of 7

Hockey and baseball meet in the form of Ford stepping up to the plate and adding its top-selling truck to the corporate deals of both teams.

It really makes a lot of sense for Texas. I mean, what cowboy doesn’t like a pickup truck, right?

Royal Crown Cola and the Kansas City Royals

6 of 7

When I was a kid, I loved to drink R.C. Cola because the initials “R.C.” are my own. But knowing that R.C. actually stands for Royal Crown, how is it not the official soft drink of a baseball team whose logo includes a crown and whose name is “Royals?” Seems like a perfect fit to me.

Bobcat Equipment and the Charlotte Bobcats

7 of 7

This one I hadn’t even thought of initially, but why can’t an NBA team have a construction/utility equipment company as a corporate sponsor?

Bobcat: The official utility vehicle of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Sometimes you’ve got to think outside the box a little bit to get a deal done, and this one would fit.
