WWE: 10 Reasons Kevin Nash Should Not Have Been Brought Back

Sharon GlencrossJun 3, 2018

Since limping in at the end of WWE's SummerSlam main event and shockingly taking out champion CM Punk, wrestling veteran Kevin Nash's return to WWE has been rightly regarded as a complete and utter flop by fans and critics.

Why? Well, let's have a look at the long list of reasons WWE would have been better off not calling Nash.

Nash Has Virtually No Chemistry with HHH

1 of 10

Despite fans being bombarded with constant reminders on Raw and Smackdown about how close these two are away from the ring, their real-life chemistry has not successfully crossed over onto television, unlike Nash and Hall, or Hunter and HBK.

Indeed, their interaction mostly comes off as forced, unconvincing and stilted, distressing considered the whole angle is built around what good friends they are and how conflicted HHH is over his buddy's betrayal.

He's Not Over

Seriously, it seems the only enjoyment the predatory crowd derive from Nash these days is intentionally unnerving him with their “What” chants every chance they get.

The man generally comes out to complete and utter silence these days, as most fans are decidedly unimpressed with this washed-up, dull performer.

The Text Message Storyline Was a Huge Letdown

3 of 10

So after all that fuss over who sent Nash the text message instructing him to interfere after the SummerSlam main event, the dastardly culprit turned out to be...Nash, himself?

Several questions: Why did Nash go to all the trouble of sneaking into HHH's office to grab his phone and send the text, instead of just saving himself a ton of bother and simply claiming he got sent one? Heck, why even say anything about a text in the first place and not just do the run-in instead?

This was a huge anti-climax.

Those Awful Shirts

4 of 10

Seriously, the man needs Susannah and Trinny, or something. Bring back Rico! Punk's claims that Nash is out-of-touch are only proven true when Nash shows up looking like a '70s suburban dad.

He's a Terrible Promo These Days

5 of 10

While he certainly wasn't The Rock, Nash was always regarded as a decent talker and personality in wrestling. In WCW and TNA the laid-back Nash used to exude a coolness and confidence on the mic; he was the calm veteran who has seen it all.

But right now? It's was stunning to see the usually relaxed and unfazed Nash grow extremely flustered by the annoying “What?” chants of the crowd on his first night back. His interviews and skits the following weeks weren't up to much, either.

Nash has been reduced to melodramatically screeching “We were friends!” at HHH on Raw and Smackdown lately. It's like a really awful, badly acted soap opera. Nash is a shell of his former self on promos, and for that reason alone, he should not have been brought back.

There Are More Deserving Wrestlers Who Could Be in This Spot

6 of 10

Seriously, any upper-mid carder could have been given Nash's current spot and the feud with CM Punk and probably done a much better job, both in the ring and in interviews, than the indifferent Nash has.

Imagine, Dolph Ziggler or Jack Swagger in this role. Not only would the results have been better, WWE would have been building for the future, too.

Nash Is Too Injury-Prone

7 of 10

Let's face it, Nash is a physical wreck: Due to his litany of injuries, Nash has become almost a running joke in wrestling (not that Nash would ever run of course, he'd probably tear something). Now, not all older wrestlers are physical wrecks who shouldn't be let anywhere near a main event (for example, Fit Finlay and Ric Flair are still in decent shape for their ages), but Nash most certainly is.

Indeed, Nash was pulled from his planned match with CM Punk at WWE's Night of Champions PPV due to an undisclosed injury. Reports indicate that Nash's problem, whatever it is, will likely be solved in the next couple of months and the original match will be taking place at some point. Although with Nash's unreliable history, even this remains doubtful.

Nash and Punk Will Be an Awful Match

8 of 10

Even if Nash does eventually manage to have a match with his foe CM Punk, it's highly doubtful that the match will be any good. Talented as Punk is, carrying the lazy, largely immobile Nash (who rarely looked good in the ring during his stint in TNA) to something watchable is probably beyond even him.

Nash Is Not Helping the Punk/HHH Feud

9 of 10

The current Punk and HHH programme, which is culminating in a match this Sunday at Night of Champions, has become decidedly flat in recent times, partly due to far too many shoot remarks and insider angles for the casual audience to fully grasp.

While Nash can't be blamed for this entirely, his presence certainly isn't helping what has become a lukewarm angle.

His Return Is Not Good for Morale

10 of 10

Imagine this: you're a hard working mid-carder in WWE, who has behaved yourself, kept in shape, and said all the right things, in hopes that you will eventually be rewarded by a big push at some point.

Only to stand back and watch a huge main event push go to...Kevin Nash, a washed-up star who hasn't been relevant in years? Yikes. No wonder morale is supposed to be down these days.
