The Week That Was: Pro Wrestling Recaps

Ron JohnsonNov 22, 2008

This week was about momentum and tough choices. On RAW, it was all about the balance of egos. On ECW, it was about asserting yourself. On TNA, it was about fighting the good fight. And on SmackDown! it was about proving yourself worthy.

So how did they do in the eyes of the WWE Universe and TNA FanNation?

You decide.

WWE RAW: Spoling For A Fight!

Monday's RAW was about winning over your teammates and the bosses. Besides Stephanie McMahon's open forum ending in an all out slugfest between HBK and JBL, it was how the night ended that made things interesting.

Team JBL took all the momentum from Team HBK with two big wins on Monday night. Thanks to his quickness, JBL managed to get the win for he and Kane, while John Morrison used Sweet Chin Music to take out Shawn Michaels to pick up the win for The Dirt Sheet.

The RAW Divas showed unity on Monday as well. After Kelly Kelly picked up the win against Victoria, the Black Widow dropped her with the Widow's Peak. But what she didn't expect was Team Phoenix to come out and get some payback. But what she really didn't expect was Beth Phoenix to come from behind and toss her back into the fray. Even with some serious animosity between Mickie James and Phoenix, Team RAW looks unified whereas Team SmackDown! was nowhere to be found on Monday night.

Team Batista and Team Orton did their parts to ensure that they had the momentum going into this Sunday's Survivor Series. Batista dispatched of Priceless member Manu in their first encounter. But CM Punk fell short of his goal for redemption as thanks to a distraction from William Regal during the Lumberjack Match, Randy Orton was able to pick up the win with the RKO. But Orton wasn't done yet. As he set up to deliver another punt to Punk, Batista came in and speared Orton, JBL came in and nailed the big boot on Batista, and HBK and Rey Mysterio each got a measure of revenge on Team JBL.

What followed afterwards was a huge brawl involving both RAW and ECW superstars to end the broadcast.

ECW: Only the World's Strongest Survives

ECW may be only an hour long, but it's enough to gain some momentum heading into Survivor Series.

Mark Henry delivered enough punishment to take out Kofi Kingston and land enough momentum for Team Orton heading into their Elimination Match. In the end, the World's Strongest Man, William Regal and Cody Rhodes defeated Kingston, Matt Hardy and Finlay.

In other ECW action, Tommy Dreamer threw his Amateur Wrestling Challenge against Jack Swagger in an effort to get a rematch with Swagger next week. Teddy Long gave him his wish as he ordered the rematch...for Extreme Rules on ECW! And the New Superstar Initiative saw the debut of its next superstar in DJ Gabriel. But DJ had an entourage in the form of former wedding planner for Vickie Guerrero, Alicia Fox. So when Lena Yada was cut loose by the WWE, Fox was brought in her place.

Sounds like a sweet move since Fox is still smokin' hot!

TNA IMPACT!: Lead, Follow or Get Out The Way!

Unity was the keyword for Thursday's edition of IMPACT! After the Main Event Mafia whacked Christian Cage, they decided to give him a funeral. But one person who was not happy about this was The War Machine Rhino. The Mafia decided to give Rhino the same courtesy by beating and bloodying him up before tossing his lifeless body into the casket.

But in the midst of the whacking, the Mafia made sure that the Young Lions didn't have an inch of unity as TNA's version of the nWo decimated Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Consequences Creed & "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal after Joe and Styles won their bout against the Motor City Machineguns.

But Jeff Jarrett had seen enough, and decided to put an end to this hostile takeover. So TNA Executive Shareholder Mick Foley made two huge matchups for Final Resolution next month. Kurt Angle made two suggestions for the double main event, but Foley had an idea of his own for the pay per view. So after the Mafia got the win over The Monstrous Blueprint at the end of the night, Foley came out with two huge announcements.

Foley first comes out and admits that he may have jumped the gun in backing the Young Lions. But he had a way to find out if he made the right decision or not. With that he made this big announcement: Booker T, Sting, Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash would face Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and two partners of their choosing. If The Lions win, then AJ Styles becomes the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

As for Kurt Angle, he would not get Jarrett at Final Resolution...instead he would get Rhino. Angle comes out and demands that Jarrett fight him at the pay per view, but Jarrett comes out and sweetens his match at FR: If Angle wins, he gets his match at Jeff Jarrett. But if Angle loses, he is out of TNA for good. So instead of shaking on the deal, he slapped Jarrett in the hopes of making things physical.

But as Jarrett prepared to return the favor, someone beat him to the punch. Jarrett started to laugh and point to someone behind Angle. As Angle turned around, he became another victim on the receiving end of a GORE! from an irate and bloodied Rhino.

WWE SmackDown!: And Then There Was Three

Tonight, Jeff Hardy had only one clear intention: To get one step closer to the brass ring that has eluded him his entire career. He got his chance and capitalized on the situation provided by Vladimir Kozlov. He rolled Triple H up to get the win and earn a spot in the WWE Championship Match against both The Game and The Moscow Mauler. So instead of it being one on one, Triple H now has to worry about two men battling for his championship at Survivor Series.

MVP became a victim of a Punjabi nightmare as his last chance to collect his incentive bonus came up short. As MVP was closing in on collecting, The Great Khali came down and provided enough distraction to give local Englishman James Mason an upset victory over the former Franchise Playa.

In the closing moments of SmackDown!, The Undertaker came down to give the Big Show his last rites, but the World's Largest Athlete didn't waste time in showing that he's not scared of the Casket Match.

But Taker showed his true powers when he dropped the lights as he opened the casket. When the lights came back on, Taker had Vickie Guerrero in his clutches and tossed her into the casket. Big Show used Chavo as bait to take Vickie out of the casket, but Chavo was not as lucky. Chavo suffered a Tombstone Piledriver and was tossed into the opened, vacant casket in his aunt's place.
