English Premier League Power Rankings Week 4
This week in the Premier League, both Manchester clubs continued their dominant starts to the season as they combined for a eight goals in their games.
Liverpool slipped up while all three top tier London clubs won their games this weekend.
The newly built QPR team struggled to score and ended up goal less in the first game where most of their summer signings took to the pitch.
Also, eight teams were shutout over the weekend in a week that saw only three draws and only two blowouts, both by the Manchester clubs.
As always, the number in parenthesis is the club's ranking last week.
20. Swansea (16)
1 of 20Swansea fell to Arsenal in their trip to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday thanks to a gaffe in goal by Michael Vorm.
The Swans are still winless and will look to achieve their first victory at home Saturday against West Brom.
19. Norwich (15)
2 of 20Norwich were unsuccessful in winning their first game at home as they were beaten by West Brom 1-0 at Carrow Road.
With a trip to struggling Bolton ahead of them on Saturday, the Canaries could surprise their opponents and take their first win. If not, Sunderland on the 26th at home is their most likely chance to put a crooked number in the win column.
18. Blackburn (19)
3 of 20Blackburn were the last club in the Premier League to record a point this season as they drew with Fulham 1-1.
Ruben Rochina scored in the 32nd minute to give Rovers the lead but then six minutes later the defense let a goal in by Bobby Zamora as the game ended tied.
Ahead of their Carling Cup match at home with Leyton Orient next Tuesday, Steve Kean and company host Arsenal on Saturday.
17. Wigan (11)
4 of 20After beating QPR last time out, Wigan ran into the machine that is Manchester City and lost 3-0 at Etihad Stadium.
The Latics have been an early surprise, as they sit in ninth place in the table with five points.
16. Bolton (12)
5 of 20Bolton were handed a beating at home on Saturday thanks to Manchester United.
Owen Coyle's club are now in the middle of a three game losing streak, but if any good news can come from the streak it is that they have already played both Manchester clubs and Liverpool.
The Trotters will look have a blowout result Saturday in their favor as they host bottom feeders Norwich.
15. Sunderland (10)
6 of 20Sunderland stumbled at home against Chelsea in their 2-1 loss Saturday.
Ji Dong-Won provided some consolation for the Black Cats as he scored in the 90th minute to keep the club from being shutout.
Steve Bruce's club remain winless in 16th place and will look to right the ship starting with Sunday's home match with Stoke.
14. Wolverhampton (7)
7 of 20Wolves unbeaten start to the season was broken by Tottenham on Saturday at the Molineux Stadium.
Mick McCarthy's club are still up in seventh place with seven points ahead of their clash with QPR at home on Saturday.
13. West Brom (17)
8 of 20Peter Odemwingie scored early at Carrow Road as West Brom went to Norwich and won 1-0.
The Baggies will look to get their second win of the season as they travel to Wales to face Swansea on Saturday.
12. Fulham (13)
9 of 20Bobby Zamora equalized in the 38th minute against Blackburn to earn a draw for Fulham at home.
The winless Cottagers face a difficult schedule ahead of them as they face Twente in the Europa League on Thursday. They then host Manchester City on Sunday before visiting Chelsea on Wednesday in the Carling Cup.
11. Queens Park Rangers (14)
10 of 20The new look QPR lineup could not score at home at Loftus Road and ended up in a scoreless draw with Newcastle.
Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Luke Young and Anton Ferdinand all made their debuts for Neil Warnock's club after all four joined late in the transfer window.
10. Arsenal (20)
11 of 20Andrei Arshavin capitalized on a Michael Vorm error in the 40th minute to give Arsenal their first win of the season.
Before visiting Blackburn at Ewood Park on Saturday, the new look Gunners will travel to Germany to play their first Champions League group game against Borussia Dortmund.
9. Tottenham (18)
12 of 20Spurs recorded their first win of the season away at Wolves on Saturday.
Emmanuel Adebayor scored in the 67th minute to net his first goal for Spurs while Jermain Defoe followed in the 80th minute to add a second goal.
After their Europa League game at PAOK on Thursday, Spurs host Liverpool on Sunday at White Hart Lane.
8. Liverpool (3)
13 of 20Liverpool suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to Stoke on the road at the Brittania Stadium.
The sixth place club will look to win game number three of the season against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
7. Everton (9)
14 of 20Everton had two leads taken away from them at home against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Leon Osman, in the 19th minute, and Leighton Baines, on a penalty in the 63rd minute, gave the Toffees leads but they could not hold on to the lead in both occurrences.
David Moyes' club will look to do better at home this week as they host Wigan on Saturday at Goodison Park.
6. Newcastle (5)
15 of 20Newcastle went up against their former teammate Joey Barton and QPR on Monday and ended in goal less draw.
The Magpies remain undefeated so far this season and sit in a surprisingly fourth place after two wins and two draws in their first four games.
An intriguing matchup at Aston Villa takes place on Saturday on the road for Alan Pardew's club.
5. Aston Villa (6)
16 of 20Stiliyan Petrov and Gabriel Agbonlahor helped bring Villa back from a goal down twice in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park against Everton.
Alex McLeish's club are unbeaten in seventh place with a win and three draws and face a difficult match with Newcastle at home Saturday.
4. Stoke (8)
17 of 20Jonathan Walters knocked home a 21st minute penalty to give Stoke the win at home over Liverpool on Saturday.
A long trip out to Ukraine to take on Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League awaits Thursday before the Potters visit Sunderland on Sunday.
3. Chelsea (4)
18 of 20Chelsea came up with a win on Saturday over Sunderland on the road at the Stadium of Light.
John Terry and Daniel Sturridge did the damage for Chelsea, as they scored a goal each.
Ahead of their clash at Old Trafford on Sunday with Manchester United, Andre Villas-Boas leads his club into the Champions League group stage against Bayer Leverkeusen on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge.
2. Manchester City (2)
19 of 20Sergio Aguero scored three more goals for City on Saturday, as his hat trick was enough for Roberto Mancini's club to take down Wigan.
Aguero is now tied with Edin Dzeko for the team lead of six goals already this season.
City host Napoli on Wednesday in the Champions League before visiting Craven Cottage on Sunday to face Fulham.
1. Manchester United (1)
20 of 20Two weeks after lighting up Arsenal for eight goals, Manchester United scored five at Bolton.
Wayne Rooney recorded his second hat trick of the season, putting his league total up to eight through four games, and Chicharito scored his first two goals of the season to contribute to the United blowout.
United visit Portugal to face Benfica on Wednesday before hosting Chelsea in a showdown at Old Trafford on Sunday.
