Italian Serie A Round 2: Team of the Week and Goal of the Week
What a start to the Italian Serie A this week proved to be, with every game except one recording at least two goals. All in all, a total of 35 goals were scored across the league. By the end of the round, a number of players stood out from the rest due to their great performances. So without further ado, here is the Serie A 2011/2012 Round 2 team of the week:
Goalkeeper: Albano Bizzari (Lazio)
Lazio were up 2-0 early; however, they had to face a re-surging Milan. The two goals scored against Bizzari were of high quality and may as well had been rendered unstoppable. In the second half, Biazzri made a number of key saves which kept Lazio in the contest, the least of which being a diver at the feet of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a last minute one-on-one situation.

Left Back: Stephan Lichtsteiner (Juventus)
New Juventus signing Stephan Lichtsteiner certainly had a Juventus debut to remember. The former Lazio star played a crucial role in Juventus' defence throughout the entirety of the match. His tireless running up and down the line make him a more than suitatble solution to Juventus' wing back problems. The Swiss international scored the first in Juve's 4-1 win.
Central Back: Hugo Campagnaro (Napoli)
Napoli continued where they left off last season, defeating Cesena 3-1. Cesena boasted a potent attacking force, including Adrian Mutu, Antonio Candreva and Jiminez, meaning that for the Napoli defenders marking these players would be no walk in the park. However, Hugo Campagnaro did an excellent job of containing the attack, in the process grabbing a goal also.
Right Back: Manuel Pasquale (Fiorentina)
With Fiorentina finishing poorly last season, la Viola got off to the best possible start to the season, with a 2-0 victory over Bologna. Manuel Pasquale did a great job of containing Marco Di Vaio, who often proves extremely dangerous upfront. The wing back also grabbed an assist on Alberto Gilardino's opener.
Left Midfield: Stefano Mauri (Lazio)
Stefano Mauri's two brilliant assists against defending league champions AC Milan will be remembered, especially for the two sublime finishes on the end of each cross. Mauri's great balls had Lazio 2-0 up early. He also did well to help contain the Milan attack as they began their search for the two equalisers.
Central Midfield: Claudio Marchisio (Juventus)
The "christening" of the new Juventus Stadium could be considered as a "coming of age" for Claudio Marchisio, who has so often been left out of Juventus starting line-ups. However, this time around Marchisio played brilliantly in the centre of the back alongside Pirlo. The Italian international also bagged one of the goals of the season.
Central Midfield: Andrea Pirlo (Juventus)
From the man who scored the goal to the man that provided it. Andrea Pirlo was simply brilliant against Parma. The former Milan player added an extra dimension to otherwise stagnant Juventus attack. Pirlo's long balls found teammates with pinpoint accuracy, suggesting that he will be a regular starter for at least the first few couple of the league matches. Pirlo also got the assist on the Lichtsteiner goal.
Right Midfield: Maxi Moralez (Atalanta)
What a debut for the Argentine in the Serie A. Although Atalanta drew 2-2 with Genoa, the attacking midfielder grabbed two goals, proving Genoa's biggest threat throughout the match. The former Velez player was classed as being a rip off prior to the season. However, if he continues to put on such performances, he will surely keep his critics quiet.
Central Attacking Midfield: Marek Hamsik (Napoli)
Napoli will be looking to continue the great run of form which saw them qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season. Slovakian Marek Hamsik will once again prove crucial to their cause, and although Cesena were by no means the toughest opponent, Hamsik came off the bench to score a thunderous goal and grab an assist. Signs look extremely good early on for Hamsik and Napoli alike; they will be hard to beat this Serie A season.
Striker: Miroslav Klose (Lazio)
German International Miroslav Klose's move to Lazio was somewhat considered the "beginning of the end" of his career. However, if anything, Klose's transfer to Lazio might see him play some of the best football in his career. With brilliant service from fellow team of the week member Stefano Mauri, Klose was able to score one of the goals of the week, taking a deftly touch around Nesta to score the opener. Partnering Cisse upfront, Lazio will have an extremely experienced and proven attacking line.
Striker: Fabrizio Miccoli (Palermo)
After Andrea Pirlo's wonderful display against Parma, we would be hard pressed to find a better player on the pitch in Italy this week. However, in the very last game of the round, Italian superstar Fabrizio Miccoli popped up to put in a performance against Inter Milan that was simply superb. Miccoli bagged two goals including a spectacular free kick. His inspired performance upfront stunned Inter, as Palermo defeated them 4-3 to give Gasperini a real headache to start the league.
Goal of the Week: Maurizio Pinilla (Palermo vs Inter)
Pinilla grabs the goal of the week award after a spectacular strike to seal the win against Inter. He narrowly bet Claudio Marchisio's effort against Parma and Klose's effort against Milan. Check it out (sixth goal).
