College Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Recruits Who Will Chose Darkhorse Teams
Every year we see recruits release long lists that contain some teams at whom we laugh and say "there's no way he's going there." Then signing day comes and they sign with the darkhorse team.
Well I think I have five recruits that will choose a team that is a "darkhorse" program per se. I'm talking about the types of programs that almost always lose star recruits to the powerhouse programs.
Here we go.
5. D'Vario Montgomery, WR
1 of 5Montgomery is a 6'3", 211-pound wide receiver prospect who plays big and physically on the flanks. He has offers from Alabama, Florida, FSU, LSU and South Carolina.
Yet he got a good feeling while he was at South Florida earlier this summer.
Don't be shocked to see Montgomery sign up with the Bulls next February.
4. Amarah Darboh, WR
2 of 5Darboh just released his final five last month, which consists of Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Iowa and Wisconsin.
Obviously, one would have to imagine that the Gators, Wolverines and Irish would be an easy choice for any recruit in the country. However, Darboh wants to take all of his trips and is really being methodical with his recruitment.
I think the Iowa native could opt to stay home and play for Kirk Ferentz over the typical powers.
3. Rushel Shell, RB
3 of 5Shell is one the top 20 players in the country, so you know he can choose wherever he wants to go. With offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Penn State and Virginia Tech among a whole lot more, one school seems to be sticking out for Shell:
Pitt.
Yes, the Panthers are the rumored favorites to land the 5'11", 215-pound running back and a decision will likely come next month.
2. Dorial Green-Beckham, WR
4 of 5Dorial Green-Beckham is a 6'6", 220-pound wide receiver with 4.3 speed who many feel is the premier prep football prospect in the United States for 2012 recruiting.
He has basically every college coach in America chasing after him, and has taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri and Arkansas.
He doesn't divulge much information about his recruitment, but the consensus seems to be that distance will be a factor in his decision-making process.
That's I think Missouri could be the right choice, because he could stay close to home and play in a spread offense.
1. Eddie Goldman, DT
5 of 5Goldman is seriously considering Clemson, Alabama, Maryland, Florida State, Auburn and Miami.
However, the other school in his final seven is Cal. Goldman took an unofficial visit to Berkley earlier this summer, camped there and had a blast. He loved the coaches, the area and the academics.
With Cal running a 30 front that switches to a 40 front at times, Goldman likes the way he could be used with Clancy Pendergast. He absolutely does not want to be a nose tackle.
I think Cal could be the school that wins the Goldman sweepstakes.
