Oregon Football: De'Anthony Thomas Will Still Be the Next Reggie Bush
The Oregon Ducks are prepping their true freshman running back, De'Anthony Thomas, to be the next great, all-purpose threat like Reggie Bush.
I said that in an article last week, shortly before the Los Angeles high school phenom fumbled away two key possessions for the Oregon Ducks in the Cowboys Classic against the LSU Tigers. These two fumbles set LSU up for key touchdowns in the second half.
Ultimately, his two fumbles erased any chances that Oregon had to beat LSU. The first fumble came when the Ducks were down by only three. The game wasn't lopsided, it was simply based on turnovers—De'Anthony's turnovers.
Fumbling away your team's chance to beat a Top Five opponent in a nationally televised game on ESPN is a fairly rough way to begin your career—especially when you're supposed to become the next Reggie Bush. However, throughout the game spectators saw that even though he couldn't hold on to the ball twice, they were still witnessing something special.
De'Anthony Thomas looked as if he was moving at a different speed than everyone else. He was hitting holes faster than even LaMichael James, he was making cuts and jukes, he caught every difficult ball thrown at him—all of this in his first college game against arguably the best defense he will ever face.
Superstars overcome adversity and are stronger because of it. They aren't defined by their failures, but rather use those failures to become the players they know they can be.
Doesn't this story sound like the making of a star? Amid the fumbles and head-hanging on the sidelines, can't you see another Reggie Bush waiting for his moment to take the country by storm?
Nothing has changed. De'Anthony Thomas is still the next Reggie Bush.
