TNA Impact Wrestling: Results and Thoughts as Jeff Hardy Asks for Another Chance

Kyle SchadlerJun 7, 2018

Last night’s episode of Impact Wrestling was the go-home show before No Surrender. The past few weeks of TNA have been good, and while most were probably watching the NFL last night, I was in a certain amount of suspense for the show.

The biggest question going into the show was what Jeff Hardy was going to say. Would he beg for forgiveness or tell us all to mind our own business? Here’s what happened.

The show opened with Mr. Anderson. He admitted that joining Immortal was a bad idea and said that if Immortal hated him before, they’re really going to hate him now. He’s going to be a “royal pain in the ass” for them.

He announced that he never cashed in his rematch and will do it now. That brought out Sting, who revealed that the Network gave him the power tonight. As his first act, he made himself the special enforcer in the World Title match.

I can’t wait for this storyline to end. While I’m a huge fan of Sting, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan, this whole power struggle over TNA has gone on for too long. It’ll be nice to see something else going on once this all ends.

In out first match of the night, Devon and The Pope defeated the British Invasion in a good match, after Devon pinned Douglas Williams, to become the No.1 contenders for the Tag Team Titles.

While I feel that the British Invasion are the only legit team left in TNA right now, I think it’s good that Devon and Dinero won this match. For quite a while, the only real teams in contention for the titles were Beer Money and the Motor City Machine Guns. With Mexican America as champions, Beer Money on the verge of singles careers, and Chris Sabin out until next year, it’s good to see a newer team get a chance.

Let’s be honest, it was only a matter of time before Devon and Dinero formed a team. For months, Devon had been very skeptical of Dinero’s relationship with his children, but seems to have earned his trust. As soon as that storyline started, I knew it would end up in a partnership.

They make a good team, and I hope this isn’t just something that’ll last a few months. Hopefully they’ll stick together for a while. Will they win the titles? I don’t think so, at least not yet.

Jeremy Borash was going to do a segment with Bully Ray, Gunner, Bobby Roode and James Storm, but Ray kicked him out of the ring. Ray put himself over, then Beer Money as a team. He said Gunner is only there to make sure he becomes champion. Gunner didn’t look like he was on the same page, though.

Roode took the mic and told Ray to shut up. He and Storm are eying the World Title. He promised that no matter what happens, one of them will win, and both of them will be there to celebrate.

Well, the final four are set. One of these four men will challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Bound for Glory. I wasn’t surprised at all when Bully Ray said that Gunner was only there to ensure Ray’s victory. It will be interesting to see if Gunner ends up costing Ray the series or if he will indeed help him win it all.

I’m glad to see Bobby Roode end up in the final four, and he is my personal pick to win it all. I don’t see Kurt Angle losing the title before Bound for Glory, and Roode would be the perfect opponent. They would have a great match. Of course, this is anyone’s game.

Eric Young defeated Robbie E after a piledriver to retain the TNA Television Title in a decent match. Post-match, Rob Terry gave Young a last ride powerbomb.

Anyone else disappointed that Eric Young retained the title? Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of Young, but I’m not a fan of his character. He has the kind of character that just shouldn’t hold a title.

The TNA Television Championship could become a legit mid-card title, a kind of title TNA desperately needs. They have a lot of talent on their roster, and they need a title for the wrestlers that aren’t involved in the main event picture or the X-Division.

When that potential title is around the waste of someone who runs around Hollywood looking for actors to wrestle and who takes off his clothes in the ring to reveal he’s wearing his opponent’s tights, it’s a complete waste. The sooner the title is taken off of him the better.

With the way the end of the match went, it looks like Robbie may be getting another shot sometime soon. He needs a boost in his career, and the TV Title could give him that boost. He could also help make the belt a legit title if done right.

Backstage, Rob Van Dam confronted Jerry Lynn about screwing him last week. Lynn is sick of RVD getting all the attention. He said that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff smartened him up and that he’s better than him. Van Dam then proceeded to knock him to the ground.

So is Lynn a member of Immortal now? Either way, looks like well be getting RVD vs. Lynn one more time.

Elsewhere, Velvet Sky wanted to know what it’s like to be champion. Karen Jarrett showed up and told Mickie James that Winter gets her rematch at No Surrender. She told Velvet to “bring it” and lose weight.

I, too, wonder what it would be like if Velvet was champion. I hope she gets her shot, and a title reign, sometime soon. As for Karen, I’m already annoyed by her new role. Though I guess that means she’s doing her job as a heel.

Back in the ring, Mr. Anderson defeated Kurt Angle by disqualification after Immortal came down for the attack. They were spilt between attacking Anderson and Sting post-match.

This was a good, back-and-forth match until the ending. I figured that Angle would retain the title, though I’m disappointed on how he did it. At the same time, I’m not surprised by the ending. We all knew that Immortal would get involved somehow.

Now ,unless Angle defends the title at No Surrender—which I hope he doesn’t, as all the attention should be on the finals of the BFGS—we’ll next see the title on the line at Bound for Glory.

Backstage, Immortal was celebrating. Eric Bischoff was on the phone and told Immortal to leave. He didn’t look too pleased and obviously wasn’t happy as the call continued.

I’ve got a feeling it has to do with Angle’s title defense at No Surrender, though I hope it’s something else.

Angelina Love and Winter defeated Velvet Sky and Mickie James after Winter spit a red mist in Mickie’s face. This was a good, back-and-forth match that was miles ahead of a WWE Diva’s match.

I wish that WWE gave a damn about their female wrestlers like TNA does. Granted, the Knockout’s Division isn’t what it used to be, but it’s still better then WWE’s, which gives their women two minutes if they're lucky.

I hope that this feud between Mickie and Winter is over after No Surrender, as I would like to see Velvet get her much-deserved title shot. Odds are, though, that Angelina will be next in line if Mickie retains. If Winter wins, that could set up Velvet’s first title shot and, hopefully, first reign as champion.

Austin Aries headed out to the ring next and declared himself Bischoff’s favorite X-Division wrestler. He invited Kendrick to the ring. That brought out the champion in a suit.

Fans don’t like the new Kendrick, and neither does he. He started talking like himself and was taking off the suit piece by piece. Aries was confused and once again said he was going to win the title. He called Kendrick a phony, and Kendrick attacked. Aries would escape, though.

I am very excited for this match at No Surrender. It should be quite good and could very well lead to an Ultimate X match at Bound for Glory.

Backstage, Hulk Hogan was celebrating. Bischoff was just sitting there worried, though. The phone call was from the Network, and they booked Kurt Angle vs. Sting vs. Mr. Anderson for the title at No Surrender.

My fears have come true. Instead of all the focus being on the finals of the BFGS, it must now share it with Kurt Angle, Sting, Mr. Anderson and Immortal as a whole.

Gunner defeated Bobby Roode, Bully Ray and James Storm in good match. We got some good, fast-paced, back-and-forth action throughout the whole match. We saw some tension between Beer Money as they went face-to-face without attacking each other.

There was also some tension between Ray and Gunner, especially since Gunner got the win by pinning Ray.

Before the match started, though, Samoa Joe attempted to interrupt, but he was cut off by Matt Morgan. I wish their feud had gotten more hype than that, but with the all the attention on the finals of the BFGS, and now the World Title match, I can see why there wasn’t anything more.

I can’t wait to see who wins the BFGS, though I hope it’s Roode, and the Morgan/Joe match.

The fans cheered as Jeff Hardy headed to the ring next, but he admitted that he didn’t deserve it. He let everyone down and knows that everyone is mad at him. He admitted to hitting rock bottom at Victory Road.

He doesn’t expect to be given another chance, but he asked for one. The fans start chanting “one more shot” as he left the ring.

As far as I’m concerned, Hardy should get one more chance, but only one more. This isn’t the first time this has happened, and if he does it again he doesn’t deserve anyone’s sympathy. I don’t know if what Hardy said was scripted or not, but it takes a big man to admit that he made a mistake and that he hit rock bottom.

With his 10-day jail sentence, 30-month probation period and drug treatment, I’d hope this is a rude awakening for him. Let’s hope he stays clean and becomes the great performer he once was.

Overall, this episode of Impact Wrestling was quite good. All feuds were advanced going into No Surrender, but at the same time we have some questions going into the pay-per-view. The big question being about the Network.

Hogan is sick of them getting involved and wants them dealt with. How will that factor into No Surrender, or will we have to wait until next Thursday?
