Manny Pacquiao to Fight for Filipino Vice Presidency in 2016
Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has announced that he plans to run for the vice presidency of the Philippines in 2016, according to Filipino website GMA News.
Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) is currently an active welterweight world champion and congressman in his home country of the Philippines with plans of running for executive office in 2013.
Executive office is a very high position in the Philippines, and Pacquiao has suggested that landing the position could retire him from boxing with all the responsibilities he would gain.
"Come 2016 I am going to run (for) vice president...no more boxing at that time," said Pacquiao.
Even if executive office doesn't retire the legendary Filipino boxer, expect a run for vice presidency to be the final political nail in the coffin to lay rest one of the most decorated boxing careers in recent memory.
Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, has alluded to wanting to close Pacquiao's career with two big boxing events. One of those is the final fight in a Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KOs) trilogy, scheduled for November 12 in Las Vegas.
The last event would ideally be against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KOs). Though both sides have come to disagreement in past negotiations, both men have still expressed a strong desire to face one another.
Hopefully, they're both sincere in their efforts to make this fight.
