Quinton Jackson on Jon Jones: "I'm Gonna Have Fun Whipping His Ass"
As UFC 135 edges closer, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson seems to have Jon Jones figured out.
More recently, fans haven't been treated to the same intensity and motivation that Jackson is known to bring into his fights but if his recent trash-talk is any indication, this bout could be one of the more competitive fights on the card.
In a pre-fight interview, Jackson said he questions Jones' power based on the types of strikes he throws and the fundamental stance from which he throws from. It is this type of attitude that Jackson believes will give him confidence in finding a way to test the champion's chin.
"I'm not worried about his punches or his kicks, I'll walk right through it because I don't care about it," Jackson said.
While it is far from a bold prediction, Jackson does possess the knockout power to give Jones a tough fight, and perhaps for the first time, put the 24-year-old through adversity. Jones has yet to be tested so far in his young career, as he has defeated every opponent in front of him, including the likes of Ryan Bader and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
Compared to his previous opponents, however, Jones has yet to face a fighter like "Rampage."
"I don't think Jones' chin can take the type of force that my hands gonna' bring in this fight. I don't think he hits that hard," he said.
"I'm gonna' have fun whipping his ass."
It is interesting to note that Jackson is relying on his ability and willingness to absorb punishment, considering he boasts a solid chin. But Jackson would be naive to just walk through and hope to catch Jones with one shot because the risk is too high.
Not to say he isn't capable of accomplishing it, but part of what attributes to Jones' success is his fundamental stance to throw precise strikes from wider angles and a longer distance.
Jones might not have the power to land a knockout blow like Jackson, but his combination of strikes can prove to be just as effective in order to damage his opponent. It doesn't imply that Jackson's strategy can't happen, but it just doesn't sound realistic.
