Manchester City: How Long Before the Stars Stop Shining?

Zaakir HoosenJun 7, 2018

Since the start of the season, massive attention has been on big spending Manchester City backed by the wealth of the Middle East.

So much wealth that the once "second best" team in Manchester have now put together a squad that has all the ingredients necessary to challenge both domestically and in Europe's toughest competition.

In terms of the start to the season, City and only matched by arch rivals Manchester United who only lead the blue half on a marginal goal difference.

In the top 10 scorers charts, six of them belong to Manchester with each team represented by three players, Dzeko (City) and Rooney (Utd), both of whom scored hat-tricks already.

Looking at the two teams on paper, Manchester City out match United in almost every department, with a top-notch experienced goalkeeper right to the top where they possess the most potent of striking force, not just in England or Europe, but in the World.

But how long can the stars shine?

Real Madrid have long been an example of the pros and cons managers are subjected to when it comes to having the best at your disposal.

The main factor that manager have to deal with is how to manage a squad not a team, but a squad of 23 or more players, majority of whom are "superstars", and ensuring they are all happy.

Happiness is not just when winning, not been positive when loosing, but to be happy and positive when you have to sit on the sideline.

This case of happiness is at most instances the down-fall of many broader squads.

With a quick over-view of the squad and the first team choice, it already seems Sergio Aguero (Kun) will be used as first choice alongside Edin Dzeko.

Already a dilemma, where and how does Mancini fit Carlos Tevez who his fought so hard to keep all be it his transfer to Brazil failed, and troublesome yet talented Mario Balotelli.

Many might argue and say, they can be used as subs, or given the odd game as rotation, but these are not players meant for the sidelines.

Having sent a ship-load of players on loan to ease the pressure, Mancini is still left with so many unbelievably talented midfielders:

James Milner, Gareth Barry, Yaya Toure, Owen Hargreaves, Nigel de Jong, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Adam Johnson & Stefan Savic.

Look at everyone of those names, and imagine the difficulty of leaving any of them out of your starting eleven.

So without trying to pin-point the faults of so many purchases, the simple yet logically questions would be: Can Manchester City maintain the right atmosphere with the club and squad that will allow them positive results and consistent form?

We know they have the quality, we know they have the players, can it all work?

Here's a thought, would you want to be Roberto Mancini week in and week out left with the job of telling Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli they sitting on the bench, yet again?
