WWE: Christian, Randy Orton and 15 of the Best Feuds of All Time
I'll just come right out and say it—I am not going to make everyone happy.
My idea of what is a good feud and how it shapes wrestling history is completely different from anyone else's and I expect it to be.
That said there are reasons a feud is great: drama, intrigue, a great storyline. The ability to keep the fans trapped in the moment. They all contribute.
These are just 16 of them and I know we could make a case for 100 more if we took the time to discuss it, which I hope we will in the conversations that follow.
And by the way, "Cena Sucks" is not a reason for a feud being great (I hope you are listening).
But, having been a fan for 30-plus years, I have decided to keep this to WWF/WWE only. I would be here until Christmas if I jumped outside the federation.
Enjoy.
Randy Orton and Christian
1 of 16It is the freshest, most recent and one of the better feuds today.
It built its characters, created drama and then had a final act that exceeded expectations.
Orton/Christian will give Cena/Punk a run for its money as feud of the year.
Lita and Trish Stratus
2 of 16Two hot women who have held the WWE Women's Title.
This is not news.
Two women who have held the WWE Women's Title that can wrestle?
Now that IS news.
Trish and Lita took divas wrestling to a whole new level.
Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus
3 of 16Ah, so you thought there would only be one women's match?
Mickie's pursuit of Trish was Hot!
And when the two wrestled, it was almost as good as when Trish faced Lita.
John Cena vs. CM Punk
4 of 16I know you probably think this is a little low for this match, but here is my take on it.
This feud could have had more legs, but the creative team interrupted it.
Cena sold for Punk and Punk sold for Cena.
They were enjoying the rivalry so much and it showed.
Fans enjoyed it just as much.
Paul Orndorff vs. Hulk Hogan
5 of 16Another member of the circus who was held back by Hulk Hogan.
You see that a lot in the history of the WWF.
If Hogan was not champion, Orndorff could have carried the company with style.
Edge and Christian vs. the Hardy's vs. the Dudley's
6 of 16Anyone who is a fan of the extreme style of wrestling loves these three tag teams.
Edge and Christian were great together and then went on to singles success.
The Dudley's are the most decorated tag team in history.
The Hardy's were as exhilarating a team as could be molded in the history of tag team wrestling.
Tito Santana vs. Don Muraco
7 of 16Santana chased Muraco for the Intercontinental Title for months before capturing it.
Before the height of Hulkamania, this feud was a main event in the WWF.
Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels
8 of 16It was as close to Flair vs. Steamboat we have seen with better mic skills.
Michaels has always been compared to Flair and Jericho is as good as there is in this generation.
Maybe Savage/Steamboat?
Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant
9 of 16I didn't think it was as big a feud as people think, but it set the tone for the WWF forever.
Giant was the megastar of the wrestling world and his health was fading. He turned heel to help push Hogan over the top of the wrestling chasm.
And when Hogan slammed the Giant, it was the slam heard around the wrestling world.
Burno Sammartino vs. Billy Graham
10 of 16It was one of the best feuds of the WWWF/WWF era.
Sammartino held the belt for longer stretches than anyone and when Graham pursued him, it was like the hunter vs. the hunted.
When Graham won the WWF title from Pedro Morales, it marked the first time in federation history that a heel held the title for a longer stretch, more than 250 days.
Undertaker vs. Kane
11 of 16Truly the darkest feud of all time.
Brothers of Destruction.
Brothers of Pain.
The storylines were great and the added dimension of Paul Bearer was just fantastic. A Halloween horror film in live action!
Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon
12 of 16The Montreal Screw Job.
Enough said.
Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat
13 of 16It is arguably the best match in WWF history.
Two great competitors left it all in the ring.
Steve Austin and Vince McMahon
14 of 16It was the perfect love/hate relationship and ushered in the "Attitude" Era.
Austin was the anti-hero everyone loved and McMahon came out of the office to challenge his employee.
When it was all said and done, there was magic and a feud of epic proportion.
Steve Austin/The Rock/Triple H
15 of 16The three most popular stars in the WWE during the "Attitude Era."
All three could bring it every night and when you had a combination of the two or all three at an event, it was a money-making dream come true.
Fans loved to see Rock and Triple H battle or see Rock and Austin talk back and fourth.
Momentum hung on a string for those events.
Randy Savage vs. Jake "The Snake" Roberts
16 of 16Two of the most charismatic individuals in the WWF at the time.
Their feud was epic with Roberts playing the role of the villain and was considered one of the best feuds of 1991-1992.
The feud was heightened by the involvement by the Undertaker, who has become a partner of Roberts during the feud.
