Andy Carroll: 4 Reasons He Didn't Need a Warning from Fabio Capello

Thomas HallettSep 7, 2011

Andy Carroll’s bad boy image may set him apart from the rest of his Liverpool peers, but there shouldn’t be too much concern from the striker following England coach Fabio Capello’s warning on his more than out-going lifestyle.

Despite being partial to the odd drink on the weekend, Carroll has a number of reasons not to be too fearful of the England coach’s advice. He will continue on from his quick rise into the limelight from Newcastle and will no doubt be instrumental in the successes of his club and country.

£35 Million Price Tag

If there was ever a good reason to focus on your football, it will be due to the hugely inflated transfer fee it took to acquire Andy Carroll from a Newcastle side who were in no hurry to sell.

The pressures of big price tags often gets the better of players, most not living up to previous heights and fizzing out to be forgotten among new exciting talents (see Fernando Torres.)

But Andy Carroll has something a little bit more about him. He doesn’t look to shy away in games and has all the necessary ability to justify such a price tag.

Kenny Dalglish

There are few managers who are able to handle to rough and tumble that comes with young footballers looking to enjoy their youth. Kenny Dalglish will act as an excellent guide to manage Carroll out of his irresponsible lifestyle and more toward that of a role-model.

Very much an old-school manager, Dalglish will not turn a blind eye to those who do not show commitment and will find Andy Carroll his own permanent spot on the substitute’s bench if he doesn’t pull his socks up.

Luis Suarez and Competition for Places

If the alcohol doesn’t hold Andy Carroll back, the ability and form of striker Luis Suarez certainly will. Both arrived at Anfield in January of this year, and so far it is the Uruguayan who is earning himself a place in the hearts of the Liverpool faithful.

With no commitments to European football this season, and the arrival of former Red, Craig Bellamy, Carroll will need to apply himself in training and on the football pitch to earn himself a regular spot in the starting XI.

Alongside the professional and extremely hard-working Dirk Kuyt and Jamie Carragher, Carroll will want to dump his boozing lifestyle and look to the example of the senior players in the squad.

The “Active Social Life” of Other England Internationals

If Andy Carroll were to take a look around the England camp he’d be in fine company of a number of players who are more deserving of a public name and shame by the England coach.

John Terry, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney’s personal issues are well known to the public, and yet these players seem to get a free pass into the England setup.

Again, Carroll should stay firmly away from the wrong headlines and distance himself from the activities of some of his national team colleagues. He needn’t worry too much about Capello’s comments on this front as the England camp is laden with players who need a firm talking to regarding their off-field choices.
