Biggest Storyline: Will the Red Devils continue their destruction of Premier League foes?
Manchester United started their season with a shaky 2-1 victory against West Bromwich Albion, but seem to have found their legs ever since. They beat Tottenham 3-0 before dismantling Arsenal 8-2 in a show of strength to their crosstown rivals.
Bolton crushed Premiership newbie Queens Park Rangers 4-0 in their opening game. They have since lost to Manchester City and Liverpool by a combined 6-3 score, however, and don't appear ready to match up with the Red Devils.
Key Injuries
Manchester United: Danny Welbeck will be out indefinitely (hamstring). Defenders Nemanja Vidic (calf) and Rafael (shoulder) will both miss several more weeks with their respective ailments.
Bolton: Lee Chung-Yong suffered a broken leg during the preseason and will miss at least eight more months. Otherwise, the Wanderers are fit and prepared for the match.
Player to Watch for Bolton: David Ngog
The Trotters brought Ngog over from Liverpool and will give the 22-year-old striker way more playing time than he would have received with the Reds. Even though he's got the pace to compete at a high level, he needs to develop a killer instinct in front of goal to become an impact player.
He scored 16 goals over the past three seasons with Liverpool while being used mostly as a substitute. He's expressed his pleasure about being dealt to a new team where he'll get a chance to hone his skills and, if he's fit, he should step right into the starting lineup.
If he remains in the lineup for the remainder of the season, he could easily score 12-14 goals.
Player to Watch for Manchester United: Wayne Rooney
Who else? Rooney is second in the Premier League in scoring with five goals in three games, just one behind Edin Dzeko of Manchester City. He's one of the most talented goal scorers in the world, both with his feet and in the air.
He'll be leaned on heavily to keep the Red Devils' offense working like a well-oiled machine throughout the campaign, especially during the high-pressure Champions League games. He had developed a nice rapport with Danny Welbeck before the young striker went down with a hamstring injury.
Rooney should find the score sheet at least once on Saturday.
Key Matchup: Ivan Klasnic vs Patrice Evra
Klasnic has scored three goals for Bolton so far and is the only player with more than one. It will be up to Evra and the rest of the Manchester United back line to keep him from getting good looks at goal. Especially after a couple suspect plays against Arsenal in the last match.
The jitters of David De Gea have been well documented and although he's started to play with some more confidence as time goes on, it will be up to the defenders to keep Klasnic and Ngog under wraps for the full 90 minutes.
What They're Saying
Marc Iles of the Bolton News talks about the situation Ivan Klasnic has put Bolton in after two straight solid outings and the arrival of David Ngog.
"He has just strung together 90-minute games for the first time in two years and has netted three goals in his three outings of the season, but what more can Ivan Klasnic do to convince us he is worth a regular starting spot at the Reebok?
Predatory hero to some, infuriating enigma to others, few Whites strikers of modern times have polarised opinion quite like the Croatia international.
On his day, even his team-mates agree there is no better finisher in Owen Coyle's squad, yet in a team that will always have to be more than the sum of its parts, is a consistent goal threat enough to warrant a spot in the first 11?
"
It would seem like leaving Klasnic in the starting lineup would be the right move for the Wanderers, right now at least.
Stuart Mathieson of the Manchester Evening News talks about Wesley Sneijder's decision to stick with Inter Milan rather than joining Manchester United.
"Wesley Sneijder has revealed Jose Mourinho advised him not to quit Inter Milan for United.
Reds fans are split over whether Sir Alex Ferguson should have splashed out £30m for the Dutch superstar on transfer deadline day.
But supporters will all be aggrieved to hear the potential deal looks to have been partly scuppered by Fergie’s old sparring partner Mourinho, the former Chelsea manager who switched from Inter to Real Madrid last summer.
"
While it's disappointing that a world-class player like Sneijder decided not to join the Red Devils, it could help the team in the long run by giving young players more playing time in crucial situations. Manchester United will survive without the veteran midfielder.
Prediction: Manchester United 3 Bolton 0
