Manchester City FC: 6 Things The Blues Must Do to Continue Their Winning Ways

Rohan SubraJun 7, 2018

Manchester City have had a fantastic start to the season.

After winning three games out of three, this group of players are starting to look unstoppable—especially as the squad is packed with superstars. Everyone on the team has been performing excellently, and they've all been helping each other.

In the past few seasons, we've seen Manchester City sides who were loaded with talent like this (maybe not to the same degree), but they couldn't find the right balance and play in harmony together. It was a battle of ego and spotlight; everyone putting themselves ahead of the team.

Now, though, Roberto Mancini has brilliantly turned everything negative around, and the Italian manager is using the clubs star power to propel the team forward.

Bu winning a few games isn't much; there are 35 games ahead.

Here is what Manchester City should do in order to keep winning.

Keep the Starting XI Intact

1 of 7

This formation is proving to be a success.

Joe Hart is usually solid, and is decent form right now.

Kompany and Lescott make a great central pairing, and with Pablo Zabaleta and, new signing, Gael Clichy on the flanks, the defense seems to be set.

They have been doing well most of the time, but the goal they conceded against Tottenham shouldn't have been allowed; the scorer was given a free header!

The midfield, too, looks fantastic. Gareth Barry and Yaya Toure hold the ball very well, but they can also move forward on the attack. David Silva was acquired recently, and he is proving to be a wonderful signing; the little guy is using his speed to get down that flank, and it's working really well for the Blues.

Also new signing Samir Nasri is doing fantastically on the left, as he recorded three assists in his one and only game with Manchester City.

Up front, wow!

Sergio Aguero is another new new signing, and he's scored three goals in his first three games with City. Dzeko was acquired in January, but he never really fit in too well...until now. The Bosnian international has scored six goals in three games this season, including four against Tottenham in an emphatic 5-1 win at White Hart Lane.

The formation on paper is the best in the Premier League, and it's proving to be the best off paper, too!

Carlos Tevez Should Remain a Second-Half Substitute

2 of 7

This team is so stacked that not even Carlos Tevez starts.

Tevez has been a consistent starter in recent years, but due to the arrival of both Aguero and Dzeko, he has been seeing much less playing time.

Of course, when the Argentine international is on, he makes a huge difference to his team. It's a known fact that he is one of the best finishers in the world, being able to get the ball into the back of the net from almost anywhere on the pitch.

However, Tevez is said to not have the best attitude in the dressing room. Teammates have stated that he doesn't really have a positive effect on the team's chemistry, and that he can often be a downer.

Also, Tevez's relationship with Roberto Mancini isn't as good as many other players, so maybe it's a personal thing.

However, in the interest of making City the best they can possibly be, Mancini must bring Tevez on in the 60th or 70th minute. Fresh legs are effective, especially when those legs belong to world-class striker Carlos Tevez.

Plus, you can't waste this man's talent like that.

Focus on Offense

As you already know, Manchester City have a plethora of attacking players. This means that when they attack, they should really and truly attack.

Attacking like crazy doesn't mean throwing Joe Hart forward, but it requires a lot of qualities:

Of course speed is required to throw a lot of players forward, but that isn't the greatest of Manchester City's concerns, since many of the attackers are extremely quick.

It also requires tons of stamina to be able to sprint up and down the pitch for 90 minutes.

Let's say, for example, that a Manchester City attack peters out, the players must have the desire to get back to the other end of the pitch to defend their goal.

But for Roberto Mancini, it seems worth it; look who the team has!

I just can't see a team like that not playing so much attacking football.

Balotelli Must Always Be on the Bench

4 of 7

If you're a fan of the EPL, Italian football or pretty much anything to do with the sport, you will have heard of Mario Balotelli.

But not because of his talent.

Balotelli is said to have a humongous ego, and he has compared himself to Lionel Messi in interviews in the past. The Italian has performed so many antics that he has made a huge name for himself, but not in the ideal way.

Here's one example: In a preseason match against the LA Galaxy, Balotelli broke away and was one-on-one with the keeper. Instead of easily putting it away, he turned around and tried to back-heel the ball, and missed the goal.

Mancini was so infuriated at the disrespect that Balotelli showed, so he immediately took Balotelli off, and yelled at him on the bench. Full marks to Mancini; the manager earned much respect for how he acted towards this display of cockiness.

I could go on and on giving examples, but I won't.

Egotistic antics are not good for the chemistry of the team, and if "Super Mario" doesn't learn better, Mancini had better keep him off the pitch.

Use the Flanks

5 of 7

Over the summer, Roberto Mancini completed the signing of Arsenal left back, Gael Clichy. The French defender moved to the Eastlands for £7 million, which was considered by many a price too low for him.

The right back for Manchester City is Pablo Zabaleta, an Argentine. People think that Zabaleta isn't good simply because he doesn't play too often for Argentina, but it's only because Gabriel Heinze plays before him.

Both of these players are quite fast, and they can both race down the sideline to provide a cross for strikers.

Well, it's probably going to turn out well for Manchester City, because they've got 6'4" striker Edin Dzeko up top. Not only is he tall, but he has great technique when using his head.

In the match against Tottenham, Dzeko scored one of the best headers I've ever seen, where he wrong-footed the goalkeeper to put City two goals up.

Clichy and Zabaleta crossing to Dzeko can be effective.

Make FA Cup and Carling Cup Unimportant

6 of 7

For the first time in club history, Manchester City have qualified for the UEFA Champions League. You can be sure that they want to have success in their first try; they will need what many people call beginner's luck.

But they can't get lucky if they don't try.

Roberto Mancini's priorities are surely something like this:

1. Premier League

2. Champions League

3. FA Cup

4. Carling Cup

If Mancini goes all out for the latter two, then their chances for the first two will be much less. They must get used to playing top European competition.

This means that the FA Cup and Carling Cup should be played with youngsters or some such, in an effort to save the best players for the things that really matter.

Thoughts?

7 of 7

If Manchester City do these six things, I don't think anyone can stop them; they will simply be too good for any other team in the EPL.

I don't think they can beat Barcelona yet, but I think that it will be good for them to leave their mark on the UEFA Champions League.

Out of the six things that I have named, which ones do you think will be effective? Ineffective?

Please leave your feedback and comments.
