2011 NFL Predictions: Terrelle Pryor's Complete Season Stats
The Oakland Raiders managed to shock the football world again when they used a third round pick in the supplemental draft to bring the much-maligned quarterback from Ohio State University. As you know, commissioner Roger Goodell made the very questionable call of suspending Pryor for the first five games of the season.
There has been plenty of speculation about whether or not Pryor will be able to make it in this league as a starting quarterback. For the time being, the Raiders have decided to give him an opportunity at the position before trying him out at wide receiver or tight end.
Until his suspension is over all he can do is study the playbook and stay in football shape. Depending on how the season goes, Pryor could see a good amount of playing time this season.
Rushing Yards
1 of 4Pryor doesn't have quite the same shiftiness on the run that Michael Vick has, but he's about as close as it gets to matching Vick for straight line speed in the NFL. The Raiders could opt to create their own form the Wildcat package in the offense and throw Pryor out there for a few plays a game.
Imagine defenses trying to stop a backfield with Darren McFadden in it. It's tough to see this happening immediately after Pryor's suspension is over, but if he can start to see some regular action by the eighth week of the season I can see him running for around 400-500 yards and four touchdowns.
Passing Yards
2 of 4As I said before, just about every prognosticator across the country doesn't see Pryor making it as an NFL-level quarterback. There's a reason I don't have Pryor's passing yardage slotted into the first slide—I agree with the prognosticators.
The only action that Pryor will see at quarterback this season will be as the "quarterback" in the Raiders' Wildcat offense package. With Pryor playing the role that Ronnie Brown used to for the Miami Dolphins, he will likely see throw the ball a bit more than Brown.
Still, no one should expect much from him. I predict about 300-400 yards passing, with most of the yardage coming from the team attempting to give Pryor a real shot at quarterback.
Receiving Yards
3 of 4Pryor doesn't have any good experience in running routes and blocking, but wide receiver and tight end are the two options he is most likely to make his living. At 6'6", 233 lbs and sub 4.4 speed, Pryor could be a major mismatch on the outside.
Transitioning to receiver is no easy task, he would need to conditions his legs for the added stress they would be under having to run play after play in quick succession. One recent player that was able to make the adjustment was former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones. He later went on having trouble with drug abuse and has since disappeared from the league.
If Pryor is able to do the same thing the Raiders could see some early returns in the form of 150-250 yards receiving and one touchdown. Not bad for a guy whose never played the position and playing a little more than half of a season.
Total Yardage
4 of 4When all is said and done, Pryor should be able to account for around 1,000 yards of offensive production and pick up a few touchdowns along the way. We won't get a true sense of what to expect fro Pryor until the second season of his professional career, when he'll be afforded a full offseason of training, practice and condition.
Until then, if used in the ways I've described, Pryor could prove to be a solid addition to the Raiders puzzle for he 2011 season.
