Manchester City Transfer News: Mancini Completes Top Transfer Class in EPL
The transfer deadline has come to yet another swift, dramatic end. A flurry of last-minute deals sent want-away talent to new clubs hoping to improve their standing.
Free-wielding Queens Park Rangers had an impressive display, hauling in Shaun Wright-Phillips, Joey Barton and Anton Ferdinand. Liverpool upended their midfield to an impressive degree but their most expensive signing, Andy Carroll, has yet to impress.
Arsenal and Tottenham were both quite busy as well, but time will tell whether all their action was for not.

But by far the top class of the 2011 summer transfer window goes to the noisy neighbors in blue, Manchester City.
While he may have been relatively quiet on deadline day, manager Roberto Mancini rocked the tabloids all summer with blockbuster moves that have, in the short time we have seen them, paid off.
Not only has Argentine Sergio “Kun” Aguero been productive in his own right, he has seemingly unlocked Edin Dzeko’s magic, freeing him from the lone striker position he was drowning in. The two are on pace to be the top scoring duo in the league this season.
Mancini’s two new Frenchmen, attacking mid Samir Nasri and forward-thinking full-back Gael Clichy, worked well together on the left side in their first match, a 5-1 thumping of Tottenham.
Nasri and David Silva combine to make the best attacking midfield in the EPL.
Many City fans are up in arms about the signing of defensive mid Owen Hargreaves. True, at 30 years old and a sad history of injury, Owen’s best days are probably behind him. The move was low risk, high reward, however.
If he is able to become fit and produce in a backup role to Yaya Toure or Nigel de Jong, it will rub salt in a rare wound of crosstown rivals Manchester United.
Youngster Stefan Savic was also brought in for a similar role as Hargreaves, adding depth to the defensive midfield spot.
Transfer windows are not only about buying players, they are also about selling them. To make room for the massive contracts of Kun and Nasri, Mancini did a good job of getting money for players who would not have seen the light of day.
Jo, Jerome Boateng, Shay Given, Craig Bellamy and Shaun Wright-Phillips were all sold off to make room for a new era in City football.
Michael Johnson, Roque Santa Cruz and Emanual Adebayor were all loaned out as well, along with a slew of young talent looking for minutes.
Considering the additions and subtractions, I move to mark this as the best transfer window in City history. Last summer saw the likes of David Silva, Yaya Toure, James Milner and Mario Balotelli make their way to the squad, but the instant impact of this year’s signings pushes the class slightly ahead.
The light-blues sit at the top of the table early and will look to challenge the top spot all year—mostly thanks to excellent business moves by the board.
