Best Green Teams in Sports
While many teams seem to lean towards classy uniforms that reek of professionalism and hard work, others implement flashiness and attitude.
It's not just a coincidence that green rhymes with dream, because most teams that wear the aesthetically pleasing color preach dominance and success.
These teams have worked their way into the upper echelon of green-colored squads and continue to show fans and analysts why wearing green is the only way.
Here are the best green teams in sports.
Enjoy.
10. Dallas Stars
1 of 10The Stars of Dallas have won seven division titles since moving to Texas in 1993, starting a prosperous reign of hockey performances.
The team has won two President's Trophies as the top regular season team in the NHL, the Western Conference championship twice, and the Stanley Cup in 1999.
Joe Nieuwendyk may be the biggest name ever from the team, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs following their title run.
They are here to stay.
9. Oregon Ducks Football
2 of 10With seemingly the most revolutionized uniforms in college football, this team is set to go to battle every game.
A member of the Pacific-12 Conference, this team was once referred to as the Webfoots until the mid-1960s.
They've been around for quite awhile as well, fielding their first team in 1894.
With an all-time record of 555–468–47 (.541), amidst nine Conference Titles, the Ducks are excited for the future.
Chip Kelly, with his 22-4 record in three seasons, has this team on the right track, with running back LaMichael James aiming for the Heisman Trophy this season.
The Ducks and their main rivals, the Oregon State Beavers, end each regular season by playing each other in the Civil War.
Quite the finish.
8. New Orleans Hornets
3 of 10Some fans may see this as a teal or turquoise color, but we're not here to debate how much green is involved.
Despite being founded in 1988, the Hornets are beginning to make their city proud.
With players like Chris Paul, David West and Emeka Okafor forming a lethal and cohesive unit, this team is looking to build on its 2008 Division Title.
After finishing with a 46-36 record this past season, the Hornets will look to improve and subtly work their way into the upper echelon of the NBA.
If there is basketball.
7. Vancouver Canucks
4 of 10While they may be lacking in any Stanley Cup wins, the Canucks are a stout team with a bright future.
They joined the league in 1970 as an expansion team, along with the Buffalo Sabres.
They've been close to a title, advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals three times. Unfortunately, they couldn't handle the pressure and lost all three; to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.
They did win the Presidents' Trophy once as the team with the league's best regular season record in 2010–11.
Vancouver has retired three jerseys, including Stan Smyl (12), Trevor Linden (16) and Markus Naslund (19).
Their fans may be the most lethal.
6. Mexico National Football Team
5 of 10Currently ranked No. 20 in the FIFA World Rankings and No. 12 in the World Football Elo Ratings, the Mexico National Team has always found success.
The team has qualified for 14 World Cups, following their game against France in the first World Cup match ever in 1930.
Mexico is the most successful national team in the CONCACAF region, considering they are the only team from the region to win a FIFA title. They hold one FIFA Confederations Cup, nine CONCACAF championships, including six CONCACAF Gold Cups, one North American Nations Cup and two NAFC Championships.
All they need is that World Cup Championship.
5. Oakland Athletics
6 of 10The Athletics were founded in 1901 as the Philadelphia Athletics, finding immediate success on their way to winning three of four World Series from 1910 to 1914 during the "First Dynasty." The "Second Dynasty" saw them win two in a row in 1929 and 1930.
After a long decline, the team eventually moved to Kansas City in 1955, and then to Oakland in 1968. With Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson leading the way, the "Third Dynasty" emerged and the team won three World Championships in a row (1972-1974).
Then the steroid era hit, and players like Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco headlined the "Fourth Dynasty," where the team won three consecutive pennants and the 1989 World Series.
While they continue to post respectable records behind a meager payroll, the team hasn't returned to the World Series since 1990.
The team essentially revolves around Billy Beane, and his ability to get the most value out of limited finances, as described in the book Moneyball.
But let's not forget the great Vida Blue and the memorable Dennis Eckersley.
4. Philadelphia Eagles
7 of 10Always a successful franchise, the Eagles won three NFL titles before the merger and made two Super Bowl appearances afterwards, losing one in 1980 to the Oakland Raiders and the other in 2005 to the New England Patriots.
With players like Chuck Bednarik, Bob Brown, Reggie White, Steve Van Buren, Tommy McDonald, Earle "Greasy" Neale, Pete Pihos, Sonny Jurgensen and Norm Van Brocklin, the team has found consistent success.
They were applauded for the signing of Vince Papale, the inspirational walk-on who made fans believe in the average man.
The team garnered plenty of attention last year for their high-flying Michael Vick offense, and even more this past offseason with their lucrative signings.
3. New York Jets
8 of 10While they did reach, and win, the 1968 Super Bowl, Gang Green hasn't seen such success in recent years.
Until Head Coach Rex Ryan took the reins and starting feeding the team some snacks.
With an infusion of energy and the implementing of an aggressive philosophy on defense, this team continues to climb towards NFL domination.
Fireman Ed's loyalty is finally paying off.
2. Boston Celtics
9 of 10Fans these days may applaud the Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, and their 2008 Championship win, but it's the Celtics' past that garners such high respect from the NBA world.
From the late 1950s to the mid-1980s, the Celtics dominated the league with the help of Hall-of-Famers Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Larry Bird and coach Red Auerbach, combining for a 795–397 record on the way to 16 Championships.
In comparison, this team is arguably undeserving of attention.
1. Green Bay Packers
10 of 10Fresh off their Super Bowl run this past season, the Cheeseheads are getting back veteran running back Ryan Grant and reliable Tight End Jermichael Finley.
But the aspect of the team fans are most excited about is the continued development of prodigious signal caller Aaron Rodgers.
They have more league championships than any other team with 13, nine before the Super-Bowl era and four Super Bowl victories.
A classy franchise with a loyal fan base.
The future is bright.
