WWE: 15 Reasons Cody Rhodes Will Outshine Brother Dustin Rhodes

David LevinSep 1, 2011

Two men from the same family who have (or had) worlds of potential.

One was a man who was not as successful as maybe he would have liked.

The other, just touching the surface of what he can accomplish.

And all this from two brothers that have to deal with being the sons of the living legend, Dusty Rhodes.

It makes for some interesting conversations. Who is better? Why? Does Dustin's attitude toward Dusty make him a less than popular star in the business?

Does Cody's sudden rise to fame mean he will be better than his father or his brother?

Here are some things to ponder as you decide why Cody will have a better career than Dustin.

15. They Wrestled in Different Eras

1 of 15

The Goldust character was one of the best ever in the history of the WWF/WWE. It was electrifying and different and nothing could match it. It is a close second to The Undertaker.

But it never took Goldust to the top of the mountain. The "Attitude" era was great for Dustin, but it never allowed him to reach his full potential.

Today, with the push Cody has gotten of late, he could push for a world title run of his own.

14. Different Types of Motivation

2 of 15

Dustin was always at odds with himself and his father, Dusty.

Cody seems to be motivated to be the best.

They are a contrast in styles. It would appear Cody can keep his focus on the job better.

13. Cody's Gimmick May Not Be as Good, but He Will Be Around Longer

3 of 15

People fed off Goldust and the character. It was Dustin Rhodes and what he was identified with.

Cody seems to be his own man and can work without the gimmick to be the better wrestler.

12. He Isn’t Trying to Prove Anything to His Father

4 of 15

In Dustin, you hear the rage, the torment of a boy who was deserted by his father at an early age. He got into wrestling to prove something.

Even in the character Black Reign, you saw the pain in his performance.

In Cody, you see a man who wants to make it on his own and is using his "legacy" to show that he can be just as good, if not better than daddy.

11. Cody Will Headline at a WrestleMania Event; Dustin Never Did

5 of 15

Cody has the potential to be one of the all-time best. He can headline a PPV event. You never got that sense from Dustin.

Dustin was part of the show. Cody wants to be the show.

10. Cody Rhodes Is Exceeding Expectations Right Now

6 of 15

When he was in Legacy, he was the third wheel. Now he may be one of the five best performers on Smackdown.

When he was part of the stable, Ted DiBiase passed him by. Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Dustin was never one of the five best in WWF or in WCW.

9. He Can Put Other Wrestlers over in Better Spots

7 of 15

Ted DiBiase and Daniel Bryan have benefited from working with him.

The mark of a great wrestler is being able to help their opponents shine as well.

8. Cody's Feud with Ted DiBiase Will Be Better

8 of 15

Goldust feuded with Ted DiBiase over the Million Dollar Belt and Maryse. It really went nowhere.

In fact, I thought it was pretty lame.

Cody's impending feud with DiBiase has some merit to it and it could end up changing the landscape of Smackdown. If DiBiase turns face, look out.

7. Cody Does Not Have to Deal with Marital Issues

9 of 15

Part of the problems with Dustin wrestling in the WWF was his association with his wife, Terri.

While she is smoking hot and a great part of the angle the creative team was looking for, personal problems outside the WWF circle made it difficult for them to work together and ultimately affected the image of Goldust.

6. Cody Can Make the Intercontinental Belt Mean Something

10 of 15

The Intercontinental Championship was regarded as the stepping stone to the WWE Title.

Not so much anymore. Cody has a chance to make it as important as it was when Pedro Morales, Randy Savage and Shawn Michaels wore it around their waists.

Ezekiel Jackson was robotic, and the smaller Rhodes proved that sometimes size does not matter.

5. He Really Gets over as the Heel and Fans Love That

11 of 15

Goldust was popular for the character he portrayed. He really did not have a definition with the fans because they saw him as the character and not a face or heel.

Cody is a heel and there is a true definition to who he is and who he has become.

He will remain a heel as long as it brings him the success he is enjoying.

4. There Is a Little Bit of Randy Orton in Him

12 of 15

Can he become the face of Smackdown like Randy Orton has? Maybe. Can he become the face of heels in the company, yes.

He has a lot of Orton's arrogance and his in-ring chemistry, but he is not as robotic.

3. WWE Will Keep Him Around

13 of 15

Dustin started in WCW, went to WWF and then toiled some in TNA before coming back.

That won't be the case here. He will be a WWE lifer if given the chance.

2. He Is a Better Tag Team Partner

14 of 15

Dustin and Barry Windham struck gold in WCW with tag team championships, but since then, he has not been a tag team contributor.

Cody has won the tag titles on several occasions with different partners.

Cody can help the new tag team division if it is developed by Triple H and creative.

1. Daddy Already Sees the Future in Him, Making Dustin Very Jealous

15 of 15

It is hard for a father to show love equality for both sons.

Dusty and Cody seem to be at peace and on the same page.

The same cannot always be said for Dusty and Dustin.
