WWE: 5 Reasons Why R-Truth Is the Funniest Man in WWE

Tom ClarkSep 2, 2011

There's funny, and then there's stupid funny. R-Truth is that, and a lot more.

Since his infamous heel turn on partner John Morrison, when he lit a cigarette on live television, Truth has been reveling in his new gimmick as the paranoid heel who thinks WWE is out to get him. His delusional attitude has taken him to new heights in the company, all the way to main eventing a pay-per-view for the WWE Championship.

Despite what anyone thinks about his new character, there is no denying that it has definitely had an impact on Truth's career. He is over now more than he ever was when he was babyface, and every time he has a mic in his hand, fans are guaranteed another crazy observation from the imaginary world of Truth's insanity.

For me, Truth is the funniest guy in WWE. He has all the skills necessary to entertain any crowd he's put in front of, and he is, by far, the most entertaining personality on Monday Night RAW.

And here are my five reasons why.

5. The "Voices"

1 of 5

Randy Orton's entrance theme talks about voices in his head.  It's probably one of R-Truth's guys.

It was the next logical step for Truth, and the first night that he began talking to, well, no one, I thought "okay, that's pretty good."

How often have we really seen something like that in WWE?  A guy's paranoid delusions manifesting  as an actual physical presence that only he can see?

It's original, it's over, and yes, it's hilarious.

The best part of this is the fact that if you watch him do it long enough, you could actually start to believe that Truth is really speaking to someone.  He's very convincing.

4. He Will Do Anything for a Laugh

R-Truth could have took one look at the uniform and politely said, "I'm sorry, guys, I don't think I can do this."

But, instead of making it all about himself, Truth decided to not only wear the Confederate uniform, but to play it to the hilt, as a way to "heel-out" even more.

Truth is smart, because he understands how to do business.  In the world of pro wrestling, you cannot be afraid to take chances, to totally put yourself out there in order to get over, and entertain the crowd.

It's like Richard Pryor censoring himself because he doesn't want to offend anyone.  Nonsense.

Put it out there, and whatever happens, happens.  Make it work.  That's exactly what Truth did.

3. He Has a Point

The best and most prolific performers in the comedy business are those who are actually very deep guys, ones whose humor comes from some deep rooted personal issue.

Yeah, that pretty much describes Truth's character.

Just when you think he's getting ready to say something crazy, some wacko observation out of left field, he surprises you with a straight up bit of humanity.

Granted, that humanity is wrapped in psycho paranoid conspiracy theories, but when the smile fades and his eyes get intense, Truth does something only the best comics can do.

He makes sense.

2. He's Having Fun with It

4 of 5

Tell me that R-Truth is not having fun.

The only way to truly get over with your character is to immerse yourself in it, to let go of who you are in the normal world, and allow yourself to be sucked into a storyline.

In other words, have fun with it.

Truth is over because he knows how to sell his character, because he has embraced the wild-eyed insanity that he has to sell whenever he steps through the curtain.

He makes it work, and he undoubtedly has a blast doing it.

1. Little Jimmy

5 of 5

Never before has one little fan made so much difference for a guy's character.

A worker needs a way to get over, a hook.  All it takes is that certain something to set himself apart, and become memorable in the minds of the paying fans that he is there to entertain.  For some guys, it's their gear, something loud and flashy.  Or, it could be their body or the way they talk, it could be anything.

For R-Truth, it's a fictional fan who tortures and mocks him everyday.

The notion of Little Jimmy is a good concept, a way for Truth to take a shot at the fans, while also continuing to fuel his paranoia over unseen forces who are holding him back.

Love him or hate him, at this point, there is no forgetting him.  Truth has found his niche, and all it took was a little humor, and an imaginary antagonist.

At least, that's what Little Jimmy thinks.
