Seattle Mariners Blogger Nominated for Scholarship
As regular readers of this space know, I’m not much for the numbers—I’m bad at long division, balancing my checkbook makes me curl up in the fetal position in the corner, and geometry gives me night sweats. But, I do love baseball, and my love of baseball has been enhanced to a tremendous degree by the analysts of USS Mariner, the best Mariner blog out there (and one of the best baseball blogs, period).
USS Mariner is run, in part, by Dave Cameron. Dave and I have never met; I wouldn’t know him if he came up and kicked me in the shins (which I hope that he will never do). But Dave Cameron has given me more insights about baseball in the last three years than I’ve had in my entire baseball-watching life up to this point.
Dave has made me think about baseball for the first time—to get past the clichés and hoary truisms, and really UNDERSTAND what it means to think about baseball.
Why do I bring this up now? Excellent question. Mr. Cameron is still in school, and he has been nominated for a $10,000 scholarship by the good people of CollegeScholarships.org. As opposed to all those competitive scholarships, with all their pesky applications, criteria, and standards, this one’s pretty much up to an Internet vote. So, if you would, I would like to ask you to vote for Dave Cameron.
The poll closes on Thursday, Nov. 20, and as you can see, Dave’s got some catching up to do. Spread the word to all your baseball loving friends (and all the friends that don’t care about baseball but owe you a favor), and have them all vote for Dave.
A $10,000 scholarship isn’t much, considering the overall cost of college, but if anybody deserves it on the basis of the online work they’ve done, it’s Dave Cameron. And, if you’re not familiar with Dave, by all means, go over to USS Mariner and check it out—he and Derek and the rest do some pretty impressive work over there.
