Cowboys vs. Dolphins: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

The Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins meet in the final tuneup for each team before the beginning of the regular season. The starters will play limited snaps as both sides try to determine which players are worthy of making the 53-man roster.

The Cowboys have gone 2-1 so far in exhibition play with wins against the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings. Their loss came in a nationally televised game against the San Diego Chargers. While the record is meaningless, the play within those games has been encouraging for Dallas.

Tony Romo has looked solid in his return from a collarbone injury that cost him most of last season. If the Cowboys have any hope of making a deep run this season, Romo will need to stay healthy. The same goes for DeMarcus Ware on the other side of the ball.

During the early portion of camp, there was some concern in the backfield because the Cowboys were building up injuries at a rapid pace. All of the running backs, most notably Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray, have recovered well and should be ready for Week 1.

As for the Dolphins, they are also 2-1 in the preseason. They defeated the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers in the first two weeks before losing to the upstart Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the weekend.

Reggie Bush was brought in to be the starting running back and had some impressive performances before his subpar outing against the Bucs. His presence will be key with an inconsistent passing attack led by Chad Henne, who was booed during training camp.

The good news for Miami is the lack of injuries they have dealt with among their key contributors. Playing in a division with two teams expected to be among the NFL's elite, getting off to a quick start will be essential for the Dolphins. They open the regular season with a home game against the New England Patriots.

Cowboys' Key Addition

First-round pick Tyron Smith will be plugged in at right tackle immediately and will be expected to keep Romo safe. The early results have been mixed, but he should provide a boost to an offensive line that struggled last season.

Dolphins' Key Addition

Running back Reggie Bush will handle most of the backfield duties with rookie Daniel Thomas struggling to illustrate his ability. The New Orleans Saints castoff will get another chance to revitalize his career as a No. 1 back.

Cowboys' Biggest Loss

Most of the losses sustained by Dallas were from an offensive line that was dreadful last season anyway. Defensive end Stephen Bowen signed a big contract with the division-rival Washington Redskins after developing into a solid rotational player for the Cowboys

Dolphins' Biggest Loss

After drafting Daniel Thomas and trading for Reggie Bush, the Dolphins felt secure enough at the position to let Ricky Williams walk away. The veteran would have been a nice insurance policy should Bush fail to impress as the starter.

What They're Saying

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News relays the praise of Romo and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about rookie center Kevin Kowalski. The undrafted free agent has played so well that the team cut five-time Pro Bowler Andre Gurode.

Armando Salguero, Dolphins beat reporter for the Miami Herald, discusses the poor play from Miami's offensive line in the preseason and what it means going forward. At one point Salguero uses the term “disastrous,” so it's clear he hasn't been impressed.

Cowboys' Player To Watch

DeMarco Murray dealt with hamstring issues during the first few weeks of camp, which cost him valuable time in the running back race. He'll likely get an extended look in the final preseason game as the team rests Felix Jones.

Dolphins' Player To Watch

Chad Henne will need to take his game to the next level if the Dolphins are going to compete in the AFC East this season. His main focus should be cutting down on the interceptions. He has thrown 33 picks to just 27 touchdowns in his career.

Matchup To Watch

Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick vs. Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Scandrick has been playing the role of a No. 1 corner with Terence Newman and Mike Jenkins sidelined with injuries. He should see a drive or two against Marshall, which will be a good test if he's forced to start the season as the top corner.

Marshall made it clear he was unhappy with Henne last season, but the two hooked up on a nice touchdown pass against the Buccaneers. He has the potential to be a dominant force, but needs a quarterback who can get him the ball.

Cowboys' Position Battle

Kevin Ogletree vs. Dwayne Harris at slot receiver.

The Cowboys will be reliant on the aerial attack again this season, which means the slot receiver spot is a very important one. Ogletree went into camp as the favorite to win the job, but Harris has impressed the coaching staff with his speed.

Dolphins' Position Battle

Brian Hartline vs. Davone Bess for the second starting receiver spot

Hartline was fully expected to claim the job heading into the first preseason game. As time has wore on, however, Bess has begun to see more snaps as the No. 2 wideout and has outperformed Hartline. There's a chance Bess could overtake him by Opening Day.

Key Storyline

Both teams have avoided the major injury bug that has struck other teams and they will look to keep it that way. The first-team players will see extremely limited plays and won't be asked to run any exotic plays. It would be a surprise to see more than two drives from either team's best players.

That said, this game will be the beginning of some careers and the end of many others. Teams will have to trim their roster to 53 before the start of the season and that means more than 30 players from each team will get cut. This is the last chance for those on the bubble to prove themselves.

Prediction: Cowboys, 24-17
