The Weekend That Was In College Football
#8 Utah Utes 63, San Diego State Aztecs 14
As one of the remaining undefeateds that is getting the shaft from the computer, Utah continued its winning ways by beating a down on their luck Aztecs team.
After a slow start, the Utes went on a nonstop rampage by scoring 20+ points in the next three quarters of the game. So did this earn them the right to jump over USC? Some would think so since the Trojans had to rely on the second half to shut down Stanford. I for one think so.
#1 Alabama Crimson Tide 32, Mississippi State Bulldogs 7
The Tide barely got pass LSU last week (who by the way almost lost to Troy last night), but they showed that dominance that everyone was waiting for.
After beating the Tigers in OT, Nick Saban continued his quest for the perfect season by defeating a dismal Bulldogs team 32-7 to set up their annual rivalry game against Auburn. Now Saban has proven he can win in crunch time...but can even the new savior of the Crimson Dynasty stop the Urban Legend in Gainesville?
#4 Texas Longhorns 35, Kansas Jayhawks 7
Everyone was expecting the Jayhawks to put up a fight. They didn't. They were expecting Texas to dominate. They didn't. People are expecting the 'Horns to be safe heading into next weekend's epic battle between Texas Tech and Oklahoma. They won't be.
The Longhorns were looking fierce when they defeated the Jayhawks 35-7 to continue their path to a possible Big 12 Championship Game. But like before, it's that one game that comes back and bites them in the rear. Because of the loss to Texas Tech, Texas is on the outside looking in until Oklahoma is able to do what they couldn't do: Beat The Raiders. But even then, it's still a toss up.
#3 Florida Gators 56, #24 South Carolina Gamecocks 6
I did exaggerate. I thought that Steve Spurrier would bring his 'A' Game to Gainesville with a chance to shatter Florida's chances of their second BCS appearance in three years. I expected Florida to have troubles in the beginning of the game against the Gamecocks.
Guess we were all wrong yesterday.
In their final SEC game of the season until December 6th, Florida dominated from the get go and dealt a crushing blow to Alabama's chances of an upset in Atlanta. With only two games left this season (one that is a legitimate bullet sweating game), Florida continued its quest for another BCS Championship with a 56-6 rout of former coach Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Now with only Florida State left on the slate, the Gators need only to beat the 'Noles in Tallahassee and Alabama for the SEC Championship in Atlanta to ensure another trip to the BCS Championship Game in Miami. Two Words: Go Gators!
