Joachim Hansen vs JZ Calvan
This fight is looking to be epic with the recent Dream lightweight grand prix winner Joachim Hansen coming off an impressive win over Shinya Aoki; JZ Calvan is the opposite in having just come off a loss to Aoki. Calvan may have the edge standing with his aggressive kickboxing where as Hansen may have the edge in submissions. Although both have good well roundness, you can never count out that sneaky knee from Hansen. I see Hansen winning by way of sneaky submission or sneaky knee in the final round.
Kazushi Sakuraba vs Kiyoshi Tamura
In this senior league match we have the legendary Kazushi Sakuraba vs the meteoric Kiyoshi Tamura. This match is three years in making originally suppose to be fought in 2005 back in Pride Tamura was forced to withdraw and was instead replaced by the entertaining but mediocre Ikuhisa Minowa. Battered and beaten Sakuraba possesses solid submission skills as does Tamura. However, I believe that it is going to be Sakuraba winning this with superior stand up, utilizing the Chute Boxe clinch and going for the kill. Sakuraba wins in the final round.
Mirko Filipovic vs Hong Man Choi
Cro cop vs Choi, I give it to Choi. Whether it is K-1 or mma Cro cop is gettin older and has shown that he is not willing to ever try the submission game. Choi is 7ft tall and possese good striking, not to mention he is a Japanese wrestling champion. Cro Cop will not be able to kick Choi to the head and I believe he will have a hard time dealing with Choi's size. Cro Cop I believe will only win if he can deliver a deadly shot to the body, otherwise I see Choi winning.
Eddie Alvarez vs Shinya Aoki
This could be an incredibly exciting match up. Alvarez is the upcoming international lightweight stud, and Aoki is the dangerous submission grappler. You can never count out Aoki in a fight, but I am giving this one to Alvarez. Alvarez is a good wrestler who can strike. Aoki has shown that he has ugly striking and is prone to always go for the submisison. Now, the strategy Alvarez needs to utilize is a pick and choose sort approach toward striking. Alvarez can't waist punches simply because Aoki has dangerous judo and flying submissions. If Alvarez gets to drawn in he may find himself tapping.
Joachim Hansen vs JZ Calvan
Both guys like to bang and both guys are tough as nails; I give Hansen the edge though because he is on a roll right now. Hansen may not be the better striker but he is more well rounded than Calvan I believe and posseses the more dangerous submission game. Hansen may just lull Calvan into receiving a devastating knee to the face or take him down and submit him.
K-1 Under 18 Tournament
Not very familiar with the under 18 fighters in K-1 my analysis is going to be limited and probably very bad at best.
Hiroya vs Shota Shimada
Hiroya who posseses good hand and foot techniques is by far the more expeirenced fighter in the K-1 organization with 11 fights he has only lost one. Shota Shimada fighting only three fights within K-1 has never lost. However, I give the fight to Hiroya soley based on expeirence.
Kusakabe Ryuya vs Koya Urabe
I could find very limited information on these guys but one thing I know is that Koya Urabe has had more fights in K-1 having only two and that Kusakabe Ryuya has only one. But based on the records Ryuya has knocked out his opponent and Urabe TKO'd his opponent in his first fight and went to a decision in his second. I give the fight to Ryuya simply on the fact that he has knocked out an opponent.
K-1 Matchups
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs Kozo Takeda
This to me is a very strange match up, supposedly this is under kickboxing rules and Kawajiri is no kickboxer. Kawajiri is more a submission fighter but has heavy hands with knock down power. Takeda is a kickboxer and has competed in K-1 rules matches. So who do I pick in this fight? I pick Takeda simply for the fact that this is his sport, it is a kickboxing fight and Takeda is a kickboxer.
Gegard Mousasi vs Musashi
To me this matchup is a little bit more realistic. Mousasi is a decent striker and Musashi is a so-so K-1 fighter. I think Mousasi could actually win this one if he uses his smarts. Musashi over extends himself, at time keeps his head up and un-protected, and doesn't use the pocket as he should. Mousasi I believe will sit back and let the Musashi come forward with his head up and slowly pick him apart. The more frustrated Musashi gets the easier it will get for Mousasi. Mousasi wins this fight.
