Liverpool FC: Luis Suarez, Charlie Adam and the Reds Starting XI vs. Arsenal
Liverpool are out to achieve their first win of the season, and a weakened Arsenal Gunners side looks to be on the menu.
The Reds should have taken a 2-1 victory at home on opening day, while Arsenal slumped to an away draw at St. James Park against Newcastle United.
With the Reds almost fully fit throughout the entire roster, they have the upper hand, and Kenny Dalglish will be willing his charges to victory.
I expect Luis Suarez to be primary creative cog for the Reds, as he will be all over the ball and the pitch up front.
Andy Carroll and Dirk Kuyt I assume will be the biggest goal threats, as the Reds front two may turn more to a front three at times with Kuyt or Downing playing in through the middle off the wings.
GK: Pepe Reina
1 of 12Its a given that the Spanish shot stopper will make the start for the Reds, and he will be after his first clean sheet of the Season.
Hopefully, he wont have another Sebastian Larsson style trick goal come out of nowhere at the Emirates.
This weekend's match will be his 311th appearance for Liverpool.
RB: Glen Johnson
2 of 12Glen Johnson is expected to return from the injury he sustained against Valencia in the Reds final preseason game.
However, if the English national is not ready, I expect Martin Kelly to start over John Flanagan.
CD: Jamie Carragher
3 of 12Current Captain Jamie Carragher continues to be the rock of Liverpool's defense, and the player will make his 670th appearance for the Reds when they travel Saturday morning.
He played well against Sunderland, but will have his hands full with Robin Van Persie.
CB: Daniel Agger
4 of 12I believe Kenny Dalglish will stick with Agger again this week, as the reduced strength of Arsenal will have the Scot looking to maximize all the attacking options he has at his disposal.
Without a doubt, Agger is our most deadly central defender.
LB: Jose Enrique
5 of 12Jose Enrique did well in his home debut against Sunderland at the weekend. He will be most likely to make his second start of the season this weekend at the Emirates.
He was part of a Newcastle Team that turned a 4-0 deficit into a 4-4 draw against a strong Arsenal side last season, and he will most likely be an asset in the Reds' attempt to earn their first win of the season.
RM: Dirk Kuyt
6 of 12Despite Jordan Henderson being preferred to the Dutchman against Sunderland last weekend, I expect him to return to his deputized spot on the right this weekend.
However, the Reds could put him as a forward if they push Suarez to the wide left area and run a 4-3-3.
Wherever he plays, no one runs harder or longer for the Reds than might Dirk. He also was the savior at Arsenal last season, as his last gasp penalty secured a late draw.
CM: Lucas Leiva
7 of 12Lucas was the Reds best midfielder and most improved player last season. Kenny Dalglish has continued to show his faith in him this season.
The only way I see him not playing is if Alberto Aquilani or Raul Meireles are preferred for additional attack support going after a injury riddled Arsenal.
CM: Charlie Adam
8 of 12Charlie Adam earned an assist to Luis Suarez on opening day after one of his free kicks helped aid in the go ahead goal for the Reds.
He had occasions where he gave the ball away, but it is still early and I expect Dalglish to stick with him.
LM: Stewart Downing
9 of 12Stewart Downing was another of four Reds to make their debut last weekend, and I believe he will retain his spot on the left.
He made several great runs, including one that could have given him a debut goal of a lifetime, but it smacked off the top of the cross bar.
ST: Andy Carroll
10 of 12Arsenal's Robin Van Persie has already told the press he is wary of the Reds Geordie Giant. Carroll made some great turns last weekend and had some efforts unfortunately either be denied or were wide, but his form looks to be returning.
The newest captain of Arsenal said this in the press on Friday:
""We've seen what Carroll can do before; he scored the winner here for Newcastle last season. We'll need to be on our guard against him."
"
It is true; Carroll could make the makeshift defense and midfield of the Gunners pay dearly.
ST: Luis Suarez
11 of 12The weekend proved that, "El Pistelero," knows how to make up for mistakes, as he scored the opening goal seven minutes after he failed to convert a fifth minute penalty awarded to the Reds.
Unfortunately, that penalty could have won them three points on opening day.
Nevertheless, the little Uruguayan is the main force of the Reds attack and looks up for any challenge at the moment.
Conclusion
12 of 12The Reds coaching and management, from Kenny Dalglish to Steven Clarke, look to have the team ready to go in their biggest test of the new campaign.
Arsene Wenger's side is weakened thanks to injuries and the latest transfer sagas at the club, but you can never underestimate the Gunners.
I think Liverpool have a 80/20 chance of taking their first win against a Top Six opponent this weekend at the Emirates.
