BJ Penn On The Type Of Person He Is
Well, I did learn something new about BJ Penn today, and to borrow a quote from Matt Hughes, "I am not impressed!" And I am beginning to wonder why anyone with a brain would be.
Apparently BJ the little jokester that he is, has cast aspersions on his hated and much envied rival Georges St. Pierre.
Of course this is not a new aspect of BJ's character. I must admit he is "most excellent" at the art of casting aspersions—must be related to some old Hawaiian custom or a cultural talent (Hawaiians hold non Hawaiians in contempt, for you readers who are not well informed about our most detached state).
I have always been in awe of a self proclaimed drug user (pot is not legal in Hawaii is it?), who rants about someone else using drugs (his hissy fit over Sean Sherk and the steroid accusations). In this respect BJ is awesome in his arrogance.
It is almost as bad as beating up a cop. Used to be in other states attached to the Union, being a black belt in Karate, a boxer or BBJ expert meant that you were a "lethal weapon" and could be charged with attempted murder for picking a fight with someone.
Of course, this does not hold true of the Baby Jay of the Penn family hitting a cop "to defend a brother in a bar fight when said brother is also a black belt. Funny, isn't it that the usual sensei would frown on fighting in a bar in the first place. Wonder who awarded BJ and his brother their black belts?
Must have come with their cheeseburger Happy Meals. Boy, that Hawaii is some state!
Of course being an average American, I find such a situation most curious. And as a child of the sixties I grew up on the honor principles of Kung Fu (by way of the TV show and David Carradine) and Chuck Norris. Both men with messages of trying to avoid conflict, not fighting with the unarmed/non-martial-arts-type-ordinary-person and most definitely not police officers trying to do their job and protect the public.
Even my sons' Karate sensei taught them the principals of honor and respect.
Ah, but not so BJ!
"I'm not trying to bring professionalism to the sport," he has bragged. And his behavior exemplifies his statement, doesn't it?
Reminds me of a member of B/R who was recently heckling me and calling me "MRS. Doubtfire." Now what was his name? Oh, that's right, he didn't like to follow rules or use common decency and is no longer on this site. (Be warned, this is not Hawaii and you are not "privileged" like BJ is in Hawaii; the rules here are upheld—just ask "what's his name" if you can find him back in the company of the unwashed and uneducated inhabiting sherdogland).
So BJ who has also stated "I am a simple man," which I couldn't have stated better myself, has cast stones at his moral superior Georges St. Pierre who will, in the case of slanderous remarks, not fight back, God bless his soul!
Georges will do his fighting with BJ in the octagon on January 31, and God willing and the creeks don't rise, I will be watching to see justice triumph. And I don't mean BJ!
