NBA Waiver Wire: Week 3
Welcome to a very special birthday edition of Waiver Wire this week—no, not Waiver Wire's birthday, my birthday.
Anyway, it's week three, and while we're all aware of those who have "hot starts" and fizzle as the year goes on, through two and a half weeks you're able to just get your first glimpses into the future.
This week, pay some close attention, because those available this week may not be available in the near future. Get them on your roster if you can use them. If not, then you may want to consider it for trade bait going forward too.
Anyway, happy birthday to me—and let's pop open an ice-cold, fresh edition of Waiver Wire.
Point Guard
Brevin Knight - PG - Utah Jazz
Brevin Knight has been a Fantasy Stalwart for more than a decade, and it's because of his consistent, steady play. He never gets smoking hot, nor does he ever slump badly.
Now, being the backup to Deron Williams, you may think that this is a foolish selection. However, Jerry Sloan has taken to giving Knight playing time as a pure point guard in the same backcourt as Williams, who takes over more of a combo-guard position in the fourth quarter. Ronnie Price was getting those minutes early on, but it seems like the veteran has shoved Price to the second rotation.
Here's what Knight did this past week: 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 2.3 turnovers per game (that number will need to drop). He also checked in with two steals per game to compliment his 46.7 field-goal percentage and perfect free-throw percentage.
Those are some solid assist numbers off the bench, and the steals certainly don't hurt either.
Knight is currently owned by just four percent of Fantasy Owners, but as players (already) start to make a beeline to the trainer's room, Knight will look awfully attractive in a month or two if he can continue his strong play.
