NFL's Week 10 FARCE Ratings
Zach FeinNov 11, 2008
An explanation of FARCE can be found here .
| Rank (LW) | Team | Avg.Rating | SOS | Comment | |
| 1 (1) | ![]() | Tennessee Titans | 1025.3 | 998.2 | As the NFL's only undefeated team and currently sporting a stunning +11.4 point differential per game, this spot is well deserved. With their schedule, it's possible they'll reach 14-0, and then play the Steelers and Colts the last two weeks to try and stay undefeated. |
| 2 (10) | ![]() | Carolina Panthers | 1014.8 | 1001.2 | They play the Lions next week, then have a rough five-game stretch against the Falcons, Packers, Buccaneers, Broncos, and Giants. They better win their next three if they want to win the division. |
| 3 (5) | ![]() | Arizona Cardinals | 1014 | 998.9 | True, they barely beat the 49ers, but you know they'll score 30 points against anyone in the league. Kurt Warner might be the MVP and they've found a back in Tim Higtower. |
| 4 (12) | ![]() | Baltimore Ravens | 1012.3 | 1001.2 | Since they lost to the Colts in Week Six, they've scored 34 points and allowed just 16 per game. They have one of the league's best defenses, and that will do them wonders in the playoffs with Joe Flacco as QB. (Granted, Flacco has been done pretty well this year.) |
| 5 (7) | ![]() | Chicago Bears | 1011.5 | 1001.9 | Obviously FARCE does not include injuries in its formulae. Kyle Orton's loss is huge for the Bears; they go from a 250-yard, two-touchdown quarterback to a 200-yard, one-score, two-turnover QB in Rex Grossman. If their defense holds up they might win two of their next three (on the road against Green Bay, St. Louis, and Minnesota). |
| 6 (4) | ![]() | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 1011.1 | 999.7 | They've given up just 15 points per game, yet allowed 27 to the one-win Chiefs. That doesn't sound like a playoff-worthy team, but I still think they can go far with their stout defense if they make the postseason. |
| 7 (9) | ![]() | Dallas Cowboys | 1010.8 | 1001.8 | At least they won one. They went 1-2 with Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger at quarterback, and now get Tony Romo back. I don't think they'll beat the Redskins this week, however, but anything is possible with an offense that scores 29 points per game (with Tony Romo as QB). |
| 8 (3) | ![]() | New York Giants | 1009.9 | 995 | They lost 14 points in their rating after their loss to Cleveland. Besides that, they've been the second-best team in the league. Take out that game and they've outscored opponents by 15 points per game. Simply put, this team is better than the '07 Giants. |
| 9 (14) | ![]() | Green Bay Packers | 1008.3 | 1002 | Why is their FARCE so high? Their losses have come against very good teams: the Cowboys, Buccaneers, Falcons, Titans, and Vikings (a one-point loss). I doubt they'll make the playoffs, even in an easy division, nevertheless. |
| 10 (19) | ![]() | Miami Dolphins | 1006.5 | 1000.3 | A sleeper in my mind, it's a mortal lock that they'll win four of the last seven games. So what's their to fear? Those remaining three games are against division foes. |
| 11 (2) | ![]() | Philadelphia Eagles | 1006.1 | 998.9 | They steamroll inferior opponents. They lose to superior opponents. That's all you need to know about the Eagles; even if they make the playoffs they won't win a game against the better opponents. |
| 12 (21) | ![]() | Indianapolis Colts | 1005.4 | 1005.9 | With the second-hardest schedule thus far, it isn't so hard to fathom that the Colts are 5-4. Yet with the Texans, Browns, Bengals, and Lions in four of the next five games, it's all but certain that they'll make the playoffs for the seventh straight year. |
| 13 (18) | ![]() | Atlanta Falcons | 1005.2 | 998.7 | This team certainly is for real. Unlike most other teams, the Falcons haven't lost to any team ranked below them in the FARCE ratings; their only three losses have come against the Bucs, Panthers, and Eagles. |
| 14 (17) | ![]() | New York Jets | 1005.1 | 994 | They've benefited greatly from an easy schedule. Even with 47-3 and 56-35 wins, the Jets are just 14th in the FARCE ratings. That isn't very good for a 6-3 team. |
| 15 (11) | ![]() | San Diego Chargers | 1004.3 | 997.7 | They're a two-point conversion away from losing to a 1-8 team and going to 3-6 on the year. In a season with such high expectations, the Chargers have failed miserably, and next up are the Steelers. |
| 16 (16) | ![]() | Washington Redskins | 1003.8 | 1000.2 | FARCE hates the Redskins. Despite a 6-3 record, they've outscored opponents by only three points all year. And with the Cowboys, Giants, Ravens, and Eagles all coming up in the next six weeks, times look tough for the 'Skins. |
| 17 (6) | ![]() | Pittsburgh Steelers | 1003.6 | 1001.4 | Don't look away from the Steelers. Their only losses have come against the Colts, Eagles, and Giants, and only by an average of seven points. They have two easy matchups next before a tough four game stretch including the Patriots, Cowboys, Ravens, and Titans. |
| 18 (24) | ![]() | Cleveland Browns | 1003.6 | 1002.1 | They gained 14 rating points in FARCE after their win against the Giants. Don't even think about the Browns being inside the top 20. |
| 19 (15) | ![]() | New Orleans Saints | 1002.2 | 1000.2 | I can't get a good read on the Saints. Some weeks they look like a top-five time, others like a bottom-five team. One thing is almost inevitable: Drew Brees will break Dan Marino's single-season passing yards record. |
| 20 (20) | ![]() | Minnesota Vikings | 1001.8 | 1004.8 | Weren't the known as the tough defense, bad offense just a year ago? Jared Allen's arrival hasn't helped much. Then there's this: the Vikings have scored 97 points in their last three weeks...but they've given up 96. |
| 21 (8) | ![]() | Buffalo Bills | 1001.4 | 997.2 | After starting the season 4-0, the Bills are on a 1-4 stretch, including three straight losses to division opponents. Even with matchups against the Browns, Chiefs, and 49ers coming up, those three loses will be huge come later in the year. |
| 22 (13) | ![]() | New England Patriots | 999.9 | 994.2 | It looks like they've found a running game. Undrafted rookie BenJarvus Green-Ellis has a touchdown in four straight games, including a 100-yard game last week. The Patriots' schedule is no gift, either, as they have two division games followed by a game at home against the Steelers. |
| 23 (23) | ![]() | Jacksonville Jaguars | 996.5 | 997.4 | Think their 4-5 record is bad? Check out their remaining schedule: home against the Titans and Minnesota, on the road against the Texans and Bears, at home against the Packers and Colts, and then finally on the road against the Ravens. Absolutely brutal. They may finish 5-11. |
| 24 (26) | ![]() | Houston Texans | 993.9 | 1000.7 | Their offense was just getting started, but then Matt Schaub injured his knee and Sage Rosenfels took over. Steve Slaton gained just seven yards on four carries last week against the Ravens. Yeah, it isn't going too well. |
| 25 (22) | ![]() | Denver Broncos | 988.8 | 998.3 | I thought the Broncos would make the Super Bowl after their 3-0 start. And then it went downhill from there. They lost four of their next five, before beating the Browns last week. They failed to score 20 points in any game from Week Four to Week Nine, so unless they get their offense back to where it was at the start of the year I don't see the Broncos going anywhere. |
| 26 (25) | ![]() | Oakland Raiders | 987.5 | 1000.8 | Four words: They are terrible. Period. |
| 27 (27) | ![]() | San Francisco 49ers | 984.5 | 998.4 | Although they lost their last game, it should only rise their spirits, as they were one play away from their first win since Week Three. |
| 28 (28) | ![]() | Seattle Seahawks | 982.8 | 998.9 | They get Matt Hasselbeck this week, and they should be thankful. Seneca Wallace did nothing for them except for their one win, against the 49ers. |
| 29 (32) | ![]() | Cincinnati Bengals | 981.1 | 1006.8 | Why is Carson Palmer waiting any longer for surgery? The Bengals are competing for one thing, and that's the No. 1 pick in the 2009 draft. |
| 30 (30) | ![]() | St. Louis Rams | 978.3 | 1003.8 | After two wins against NFC East teams in as many games with Jim Haslett, they've lost three straight and have been outscored by an average of 24 points per game. |
| 31 (31) | ![]() | Detroit Lions | 973.7 | 1001.9 | Their next five opponents are above .500. Then they play the Packers and Saints. 0-and-16, here they come! |
| 32 (29) | ![]() | Kansas City Chiefs | 973.4 | 1004.7 | They really are not that bad. Seriously. They've lost their last three games (against the Jets, Bucaneers, and Chargers, all in the top half of the FARCE ratings, I might add) by a total of eight points, and all came down to the final minute or overtime. Tyler Thigpen is good. |
