NYJ-STL:Jets Ram St.Louis Enroute to Historic Win, 47-3

Sergei MiledinNov 9, 2008

The New York Jets thrashed the St.Louis Rams 47-3 Sunday, making it the largest margin victory in franchise history.

Turnovers galore allowed the Jets to capitalize throughout the first half as everything seemed to be going Gang Green's way.

After winning the coin toss for the eighth straight time, the Jets would continue their opening drive scoring streak with a Thomas Jones 13-yard run to open the scoring 7-0. While unknown at the time, it would be all the Jets would need as they never looked back for the rest of the day.

The scoring would continue with a Jay Feely 22-yard FG making it 10-0 with eight minutes to go.

The Rams would respond by fumbling the ball after Abram Elam delivered a huge hit on QB Mark Bulger allowing Calvin Pace to recover for a 50-yard return, making it 17-0.

The next Rams possession ended in a three-and-out, allowing the Jets to add another TD courtesy of Jones with a simple two-yard run, making the score 24-0.

Gang Green would continue their defensive stops as well as their scoring, after stopping the Rams yet again, Feely would hit his second FG of the game, this time for 49 yards.

The woes contiued for St.Louis after Kerry Rhodes recovered a fumble from Derek Stanley resulting in yet another Feely FG, this time for 46 yards and adding to the blowout, 30-0.

Just when things couldn't get any worse for the Rams, Bulger would be picked off again, this time Rhodes was the burglar, returning for 50 yards to give the Jets great field position. It would allow Brett Favre to get in on the action with his lone TD of the game, a simple one-yard pass to Dustin Keller to put the Jets up 37-0.

Instead of taking the knee, the Rams opted to run and paid for it yet again with a fumble recovered by the Jets with 11 seconds to go.

11 seconds would be plenty of time for Favre and Feely who added to St.Louis's misery with a 55-yard field goal to make it 40-0 (pictured above) as time expired. The kick tied Pat Leahy and John Hall for the longest in team history.

The Rams coaches, not happy with Bulger's performance, opted to put in Trent Green for the second half, hoping to muster something positive from a seemingly inevitable loss. Bulger would finish with 65 yards, one INT, and one fumble. They would be rewarded with a Josh Brown 37-yard field goal to prevent the shutout.

However, Green would later be picked off by Hank Poteat for 41 yards allowing Jones to score his third TD on the following drive.

Kellen Clemens would see his first action of the 2008 season as he handed off to Leon Washington and Jones for 13 consecutive plays to run out the clock.

The romp would allow the Jets to earn their third straight win and sixth overall as they now sit atop the AFC with New England at 6-3.

The Jets have limited time to celebrate their historic win as they travel up to battle the Pats on Thursday for the right to be alone at first.

The Good: The Jets keep the streak alive and find ways to impress without Favre's arm.

The Bad: No problems this week as everyone did their part for a convincing win

The Ugly: The fan's loyalty: who leaves a game mid-way through the third quarter while their beloved Jets chase history? One word comes to mind: PATHETIC

Game ball: Generally this goes to a player for their stand-out performance, however this week's honor goes the defense as they caused the Rams to cough up the ball five times, looking stronger and scarier every week.
