NFL Week 10 Recaps: The Day Of The Joneses!
By Wayne Lin.
Jacksonville @ Detroit: Dante Culpepper’s return wasn’t quite what he expected. Culpepper and the Lions went to 0-9 on the season and not even the impossible (considering their opponents left to play) task of winning out the rest of their games could send them to the playoffs.
The Lions held the ball for 29 minutes but were only able to muster 14 points. Culpepper went 5/10 for 104 yards and an interception. Not his ideal start with a new ball club. Drew Stanton replaced him in the game, but didn’t fare much better.

However, he tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to John Owens en route to 94 yards. Kevin Smith ran for 96 yards and a touchdown, the only bright spot of the game for the Lions. Calvin Johnson caught two passes for 92 yards on the day.
Jacksonville finally went back to what made them successful: a running game. Maurice Jones-Drew totaled three touchdowns, a career-high, with 70 yards rushing and 21 receiving. His running mate, Fred Taylor had 80 yards. The passing game continues to struggle, but the Jaguars (4-5) are content with getting a win somehow.
David Garrard has 238 yards passing and two touchdowns. Tight end Marcedes Lewis lead all receivers with 64 yards. Garrard found 10 different receivers in the game. What’s most impressive is that the Jags converted on 50 % of their third downs. Jacksonville 38 – Detroit 14
St. Louis @ New York Jets: The Jets scored 27 points on five turnovers, Marc Bulger (65 yards, 1 INT) was replaced at halftime by Trent Green (70 yards, 1 INT), and the Rams, who were without start RB Steven Jackson, only had 11 first downs.
The Rams (2-7) were down 40 – 0 until Josh Brown kicked a field goal in the third quarter. Hot rookie WR Donnie Avery was held to 29 yards on two catches. Antonio Pittman, who started for Jackson, had 28 yards rushing.
Surprisingly, Brett Favre only threw for 167 yards and a touchdown. Dustin Keller had 106 of those. Thomas Jones torched the ground running for 149 yards and three touchdowns, both career highs. Thomas Jones has been opened up to a new offensive mindset because of Brett Favre. Jones is a valuable commodity and one of the best in the AFC East.
Abran Elam, a defensive hero as of late, forced a fumble that lead to a defensive touchdown. This game was ugly for the Rams. They haven’t won since beating Dallas four weeks ago. They have lost three straight by an average of 24 points. St. Louis 3 – New York Jets 47
