Weekly NFL Picks-Week 10

Josh BrewerNov 8, 2008

The picks in the next few weeks will be a little thrown off thanks to the Thursday night games on NFL Network. I'll be keeping drafts saved each week until Saturday night, my normal publish date on the picks.

Rest assured, I'm not changing picks Friday or Saturday to reflect winners of each Thursday night game. I got off to a good start this week, though.

Let's get to the picks.

Denver (4-4) over Cleveland (3-5)

The Brady Quinn Era finally begins in Cleveland. Normally, the Denver defense would be a good way to start Quinn's career as a starter but the Browns defense isn't any better. Denver's more consistent offense leads the Broncos to a fairly narrow victory.

New Orleans (4-4) over Atlanta (5-3)

The Saints haven't won on the road. Atlanta hasn't been beaten at home. Easy win for the Dirty Birds, right? Not so fast. Though banged up, the Saints' offense is better than any the Falcons have seen all year. Matt Ryan has looked brilliant all year but he'll need to do too much to lead the Falcons to victory this week.

Tennessee (8-0) over Chicago (5-3)

I was ready to take the Bears to finally hang a loss on the Titans...but they can't stop the pass. Yes, the Titans aren't the masters of the air game, but Kerry Collins can—and will—get it done against an inferior secondary. The Titans' time is coming soon, though.

Detroit (0-8) over Jacksonville (3-5)

Upset Special! This is a hell of a limb to climb out on, but I just have an inkling about the outcome of this game. The Jags haven't played anywhere near up to expectations all year and the Lions are overdue for a win. Why not get their first against the team Cincinnati beat for their first W?

Miami (4-4) over Seattle (2-6)

Miami isn't outstanding in any facet of the game, but they do many things well. Seattle, on the other hand, doesn't do much of anything well. Winning on the road whilst overmatched doesn't bode well for the Seahawks.

Minnesota (4-4) over Green Bay (4-4)

This intense NFC North rivalry boils down to which strength—Minnesota's run game or Green Bay's passing offense—will win out. The Vikings hold the advantage, as the run game will control the clock and keep Aaron Rodgers and company on the sidelines.

New England (5-3) over Buffalo (5-3)

The Bills have only one victory over New England since 2001. While these two teams have had very different seasons as compared to the others in that time span, the trend will stick. Buffalo has been playing flat of late and Foxborough isn't a good place to play flat.

New York Jets (5-3) over St. Louis (2-6)

The John Madden Game of the Week surely favors the home team. At one point, the Rams looked like their season had turned around, but September's Rams have returned. St. Louis' 28th-ranked pass defense will be abused by Brett Favre all afternoon Sunday.

Baltimore (5-3) over Houston (3-5)

This game, postponed by damage to Reliant Stadium earlier in the year, should be a hard-fought match-up. The Texans have struggled to shut down some of the league's better rushing offenses and the Ravens are no slouches on the ground. The stingy Baltimore defense should lock down a battered Texans team for the victory.

Carolina (6-2) over Oakland (2-6)

For reasons I may never understand, I put my confidence in the Raiders at home last week. For my troubles, they laid a goose egg against the Falcons. They're not getting my vote this week.

Carolina is looking at a possibly first-round bye in the playoffs. The Raiders may have forgotten what the playoffs are. Easy win for the Cats.

Pittsburgh (6-2) over Indianapolis (4-4)

The Steelers proved themselves as one of the league's elite in last week's dominating victory over Washington. The Colts aren't nearly as good as the Redskins and, like Washington, they won't put up much of a fight against Pittsburgh.

San Diego (3-5) over Kansas City (1-7)

For some reason, I still have confidence in the Chargers. This week should be an easy victory for the Bolts, who are in dire need of a victory. A division title isn't out of reach for San Diego, who could be a dark horse in January.

New York Giants (7-1) over Philadelphia (5-3)

Despite the Titans being undefeated, the Giants are the best team in the league. Both sides of the ball are playing effectively and the team's chemistry is second to none. Proof positive was the team's reaction to prima donna Plaxico Burress, who is essentially on an island in the Giants locker room. The Eagles are definitely overmatched and will play as such Sunday night.

Arizona (5-3) over San Francisco (2-6)

The first-place Arizona Cardinals. I still can't get used to it. Another thought all of us will gave to get used to: the Cardinals have a legitimate shot at securing a first-round bye in the playoffs thanks to the terrible, talentless NFC West.Speaking of talentless, the San Francisco 49ers! This one might get out of hand.

Last week: 10-4
Overall record: 83-47
