Calzaghe vs. Jones Jr. What ? Come on, Roy is the legend, it should read Roy Jr. Vs. Joe what's his name. That would have been the headline a few years ago. people would have been saying this guy Joe with the funny last name from the United Kingdom doesn't have a chance against Roy. Jones would have been walking around talking about his next fight after this one, or about playing basketball and fighting on the same day. Jones would have already dismissed Calzaghe as a pretender to his throne, not a serious contender. A lot of people outside of the main stream of boxing would have said, Calzaghe hasn't fought outside of England. Well, actually he has fought three times outside of England. Let's take a closer look at this Joe from Wales. From Oct of 1993 to Oct. of 2001 not many folks outside of the United Kingdom had even heard of him, let alone knew how to pronounce his name. Calzaghe finally left his home land and traveled to Denmark where he KO's Will McIntyre in the 4th round. Then back home to fight until May of 2005 when he ventures to Germany for a rematch with Mario Viet, winning that one by TKO in the 6th. The first fight was an easy 1 round TKO win for Calzaghe. So let's look at Roy and his world travels, oops, Roy has never fought outside of the US.  Roy has gone 52-4 with 38 KO's, all inside the friendly confines of the US. Calzaghe on the other hand is 45-0 with 32 KO's, 42 big wins in his homeland.  In Roy Jones Jr's last 8 fights he has won 4 unanimous decisions, 1 majority decision, and lost 1 by TKO, lost 1 by KO, and lost 1 by unanimous decision. When they step into the ring at Madison Square garden in New York on Nov 8th, will we see the Roy that fought these last 8 fights and looked like he wanted to be anywhere else, or will we see the Roy that we grew to love and hail as the pound for pound best  when he destroyed the likes of Kelly in 7,Woods in 6 and Harmon in 11? If the Calzaghe that showed up against Jeff Lacy steps into the ring with Jones, does Jones stand a chance. I mean, Calzaghe won every minute of every round in my eyes during that fight. Maybe we will see the man that Beat the 39-0 Kessler or won a boring split decision over Bernard Hopkins. So with all this being said, this writers opinion is that Jones is looking for one final big pay day, and Calzaghe is looking to go into retirement undefeated. I feel that Joe Calzaghe will show the world why he is the best pound for pound fighter on the planet and go out in a blaze of glory. Roy doesn't have anything to lose, he lost it all on a  Sept. night in 2004 in Memphis, Tenn. against Glen Johnson. This should be the last fight for these two warriors. I see Calzaghe stopping Roy before the end of the 9th round. It will be a sad night for the boxing fans in the US and the Roy Jones Jr. fans, but he has given us a lot of great fights and great memories. He was once the best pound for pound fighter in the world, no matter what happens on Nov. 8th, let's remember him that way. As for Calzaghe, he can go back home and be a hero. He will be forgotten by the fickle fans here in the US because we will be cheering for the next great fighter that pops up in the next fight we watch.
