Money In The Bank IV: What They Should've Done
When you see the championship title situation in the WWE today, you cant help but wonder, how much of the trouble that the WWE is currently in was brought on by themselves?
Let's start with the World Tag Team titles on Raw, currently held by by Kofi Kingston and CM Punk. First off, if you're going to have unconventional mixed tag teams win titles, make it less sporadic than this. I mean c'mon now, this was twice in a few months that Priceless had actually lost the belts to a randomly paired up tag team.
But let's face it, the tag division isnt what it used to be. The WWE, in my opinion, completely dropped the ball on the Money In The Bank by having CM Punk win. I mean lets face it, the MITB is what it is, its a "Get Out Of Jail Free Card" for the WWE whenever a champion gets hurt or when the current champion isnt over with the crowd, they can instantly start over.
Everyone knows that Hardy was supposed to win the MITB at WM24 if it wasn't for his own troubles, but CM Punk wasnt ready for the main event scene in the big leages, i.e. Raw or Smackdown. ECW, yeah, but lets face it, its not the ECW of before, its more or less the minor leagues compared to Raw and Smackdown.
Punk is a light heavyweight with a finisher that cannot be performed on the likes of Batista, Cena, Triple H, or even Orton without making them look less credible, or without making Punk look like Superman Cena.
But CM Punk currently holding one half of the Tag Team titles on Raw couldve been easily avoided by not having him win the World Heavyweight title with the MITB briefcase. In all reality, I applaud the WWE's storyline for it, as I enjoyed the direction they took with it, but Punk wasnt ready.
The problem is, that once you put a man like him in the main event scene, its hard to throw him back down at a lower belt without him losing credibility. Look at Jericho for instance, he was successful holding the IC title again, but it still wasnt the same without it being a major title to hold.
The WWE wouldnt feel so pressured to "throw" a belt back on Punk just to give him some credibility if they never made the mistake of overhyping him in the first place.
I mean, it was most likely completely unforseeable at the time of WM24, but Jericho would've been the smarter option. That would've let him lose the IC title after WM24, which would've given somebody else alot more credibility for cleanly beating an experienced vet like Jericho.
Then they could've had him take a little time off, and come back on a face champion, possibly even (if they had played their cards right) on a champion HBK. Everyones calling for one more title reign, though it looks highly unlikely. Imagine the storyline with Jericho and HBK if that heat was added to it. Say HBK wins the belt, finally what fans have been calling for for years has happened.
And then, before the show goes off air, Jericho cashes in that very second and takes the belt from an already tired HBK. Think of the instant heat that wouldve given Jericho.
The whole title situation couldve been easily avoidable if the WWE would start playing chess instead of checkers and look ahead.
