B/R Beware: Have The Inmates Taken Over The Asylum?

Michael ClineNov 5, 2008

It’s an age-old adage:  Everything is not as it seems—meaning it's possible for an object to look like one thing but actually be something completely different.

“But how can that be?,” you ask. An apple is an apple, an orange an orange, Ru Paul a…

Yep. My point exactly.

Recently, I’ve seen the meaning behind this adage upheld on the pages of Bleacher Report everyday.

Amongst the articles, writers, and community boards are a people who inhabit this network as wolves in sheep’s clothing (or merely goldfish with shark fins strapped to their backs).

People who sign up on Bleacher Report for the sole purpose of mocking our most dedicated members are joining in droves—and they’re wreaking havoc.

Now, let me be clear. I’m not writing this article to tell these fish-sharks to go away. I’m actually glad they’re here.

It’s true that all publicity is good publicity.

Instead, I’m calling out these impostors. That’s right. Come on out of the woodwork—you’ve been hiding long enough.

And I'm speaking directly to those who have signed up four different times with different email accounts just so you can bash an accomplished Bleacher Report writer.

Did you think you’d go unnoticed?

You have the same last name on every account! And unless you’re part of the quadruplets that I saw on Lifetime, this is pretty improbable.

I’m calling you out to stop hiding and start writing!

So, come on, Mr. Jelly Bean (wish my mom would have named me that!), show us what you’re really made of.

How about it, Fred? You’re not dead. Instead of making rude comments, why not write an article defending your belief?

You’d be a better man for it.

To the countless others: You know who you are. Put up or shut up—simple as that.

Bleacher Report is not a place for enemies. It’s a place where fans the world over can come and discuss their passion. Sure, disagreements abound, but they’re not mean- spirited—they’re managed with respect.

The ball is in your court. Play or pass, but don’t be the obnoxious guy in the stands screaming absurdities with a face full of brats. No one wants to be that guy.

And if you’re a writer whose been bombarded by one of these impostors, I challenge you to challenge them.

Bleacher Report is the best sports network on the web, and we should keep it that way, so let’s stop bantering and start the writing.

I leave you with words from Roscoe Snowden:

“There are at least two kinds of cowards. One kind always lives with himself, afraid to face the world. The other kind lives with the world, afraid to face himself.”

Don’t be counted among the cowards.
