2010: Will South Africa Be Ready?

In just 2 years the world's focus will be on South Africa, the host for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. After so much of criticism from various countries and organisations, South African are ready to host the most prized cup in the world.

Looking at the current status for stadia construction, in many areas, according to the local organising committee they are on time and in some areas ahead of schedule to meet deadlines.

In 2009 the Southern African country will host the Confederations Cup which will be played in four cities. Rustenburg, Bloemfontien, Pretoria and Johannesburg all inland cities will host 8 nations including South Africa as a curtain raiser to the Fifa World Cup in the following year.

Spain, Brazil, Italy, United States, Australia, Iraq, Egypt and South Africa will battle it out in the 8th Confederations Cup, the defending champions Brazil will be one of the teams that all South Africans young and old will want to watch.

The stadia that is allocated in the four cities and all under going renovation and is almost ready for next years tournament.

Other areas of concern are transportation, the national government together with various local provincial government's have major construction on transportation systems that will be in place and ready for visitors from across the globe.

A major project under construction the Gauteng Province, the the Gautrain, a multi billion rand project that will see a subway from the OR Tambo International airport to various important destination with the province.

If you drive around the city of Johannesburg, which is the business hub not just of South Africa but of the entire continent, you will find major construction on road and other infrastructure.

the same goes for other cities, where government is spending billions of rands on facilities and areas necessary for a success full tournament. South Africa has a number of world class airports that provide excellent service for international and domestic flights.

Major upgrades on all airports are been implemented with Johannesburg's, OR Tambo International almost finishing its R3 Billion expansions.

Other developments are accommodation for visitors in various cities, this has been taken care of by Hotels, Lodges, GuestHouse and Bed & Breakfeast's.

So after having had a look at the current status, personally i feel South Africa is on schedule for hosting a success full Confederations Cup in 2009 and Fifa World Cup in 2010.
