NFL Power Poll: Week Nine
MJ KasprzakNov 4, 2008
The following are my submissions for Shaun Ahmad's Bleacher Report NFL Power Poll, with commentary to explain the decisions:
- New York Giants: After the way Tennessee struggled at home to get past a depleted Packers squad who didn't match up well against them, I have decided to overlook the Giants' one hiccup and put them back on top.
- Tennessee Titans: No disrespect to the Titans, as they are still the team that will beat anyone who doesn't play their best, but do you really think they would beat the Giants on a neutral field?
- Pittsburgh Steelers: Only losses to two NFC East beasts, and a win over a third.
- Carolina Panthers: No team seems more unlikely at the top—they have balance and experience but few impact players.
- Washington Offensively Named Ones: They have looked bad in all three losses but have two road wins in the league's best division.
- Philadelphia Eagles: With Brian Westbrook back, they are poised for a deep run—if they can even make the playoffs in this division.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: With the loss in Dallas and a bad first half against a horrible Chiefs team the last two weeks, they get into the top quarter by default.
- Arizona Cardinals: No quality wins, no bad losses, but they should fly through that weak division.
- Dallas Cowboys: May get better when Romo returns, but will it be too late?
- Atlanta Falcons: I cannot keep this team out of the top 10 any longer, and they were the only NFC team I thought had ZERO chance of a playoff birth coming into the season.
- Chicago Bears: Kyle Orton went down at the wrong time—with Grossman, I dropped this team four places, and by the time Orton is back, the Bears will be 6-6 and at risk of losing the division.
- Baltimore Ravens: No quality wins and a stinker against Indianapolis puts them below the Bears, but they have the personnel to make the playoffs.
- New Orleans Saints: The league's Jekyll-and-Hyde team is about to come together—they will have at least 10 wins at season's end.
- New England Patriots: It was hard picking one of the division tri-leaders over the others, but they have the experience and a win over the Jets in New York.
- New York Jets: They have only the one quality win in Buffalo, but it's enough to put them above the Bills.
- Buffalo Bills: Two division losses suddenly move this team from contender to pretender.
- Green Bay Packers: They are getting healthy and almost topped unbeaten Tennessee on the road without their best game, but they lost because they still can't stop the run.
- Minnesota Vikings: If they lose the Williamses for even two games, they will be knocked out of the playoff chase.
- San Diego Chargers: I still rank them ahead of the Broncos BECAUSE THEY WON IN DENVER, NO MATTER WHAT THE OFFICIAL RECORD SAYS!
- Denver Broncos: Now maybe y'all will believe me when I say THE BRONCOS ARE THE MOST OVERRATED TEAM IN FOOTBALL. Then again, if you believe me, I guess they aren't...
- Indianapolis Colts: This passing attack still makes them dangerous, if they ever get healthy—their 12-win season streak will end, but maybe not their playoff streak.
- Miami Dolphins: They will beat anyone who overlooks them, but I don't believe they beat anyone ranked above No. 30 who doesn't.
- Cleveland Browns: I wanted to rank them lower, with Brady Quinn being named starter, but no one behind them is worthy; this was a good move, though, as they are clearly playing for the future.
- Jacksonville Jaguars: We can officially call them out of the playoffs after having the "honour" of being the only win on Cincinnati's record.
- Houston Texans: Three wins in a row before Sunday's loss, but all against bad teams.
- St. Louis Rams: Still think they can compete now that they have a coach who will use his offensive weapons, but they lack a line or a defense.
- Seattle Seahawks: Too late for them to recover, even in that awful division.
- San Francisco Forty-Niners: a coaching change is a start; an ownership change is the answer.
- Oakland Raiders: An ownership change is all they need...and about three years of rebuilding with someone who knows what he's doing.
- Cincinnati Bengals: They beat a team that was still in the hunt, Kansas City only beat Oakland.
- Kansas City Chiefs: I applaud them for taking a stand on Larry Johnson, and I loved that reverse bomb to the quarterback—did you see how he lulled that corner to sleep?
- Detroit Lions: Need I say why?
