Ted Cottrell Fired Wednesday
On Wednesday, the Chargers fired defensive coordinator Ted Cortrell.
The Chargers led the league in takeaways last year. This year they are a far cry from that sitting somewhere in the middle of the league in just about every defensive stat except passing yards allowed.
This change in staff couldn’t have come at a better time for the Bolts.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The naysayers will say that it is not the same team as last year, with the loss of Merriman and the plague of injuries to hit the San Diego D. They are only partially correct the loss of one man should not a break a team with such momentum.
Their young corner Antonio Cromatie has another year under helmet. Cromartie should be learning from his more experienced teammates, and improving on his pass coverage. Instead San Diego's D is almost laughable at the number of pass plays they fail to stop.
Plays that worked so well last year should be fine tuned by now and more blitz schemes should be in place to give opposing teams something to watch on film. This team should look fresh and intimidating every time they take the field. Instead the San Diego defense stinks like stale beer on the floor of the Qualcomm bathroom.
Ted has done little since last year to ensure San Diego's dominance on his side of the ball, the adjustments are not being made. Large pass plays and third and long conversions have kept San Diego's D on the field the majority of the season, something that will certainly not contribute to curing the plague of injuries.
Ted hits the road in the middle of San Diego's bye week giving them an extra ten days to adjust to their new coach. Fresh life should be coming back to San Diego's defense. Something needed to be done to revive this D and nothing like putting a few heads on the block Halloween week to put some fire under your player’s cleats.
Look for a forced fumble a new and obscure blitz scheme and a few interceptions in next week's match.
