NBA Lockout: The 12 Mid-Level NBA Players Who Will Trade Teams in 2012
NBA trade rumors are flying around faster than most can keep up with right now. While Dwight Howard, Monta Ellis and Andre Iguodala blaze up the NBA trade rumor headlines, there are more than a few players in the association that will undoubtedly be moved by the time next year's trade deadline rolls around.
An exciting offseason is one in which we see new faces go to new places. What follows is a list of NBA players who, although they may not be stars come 2011-2012, will have significant rumors regarding their trade value in next year's flurry of roster exchanges.
Read on to see what 12 mid-level players will swap teams when the NBA lockout ends.
Marcus Camby
1 of 12Camby comes with a high sticker price, so any swap with Portland would have to be for an equally lumpen expiring contract.
The Portland Trail Blazers need some more young, healthy frontcourt help. While Camby remains more than serviceable at the center position, it seems that each year teams that are championship-ready and looking to add veteran leadership are calling up for the Marcus Cambys and Kurt Thomas's of the world.
Kirk Hinrich
2 of 12With Jeff Teague's 2011 playoff performance, the Atlanta Hawks will most likely be looking to move veteran guard Kirk Hinrich.
Hinrich's contract is a hefty $8 million for next year but comes off the books after that. A team like the Lakers or Heat, who need a veteran floor general, may try to roll the dice with Hinrich for one season.
Boris Diaw
3 of 12The Charlotte Bobcats are looking to get younger and at age 29, Boris Diaw is entering the last phase of his career.
Michael Jordan's franchise tendered an offer to forward Dante Cunningham and drafted Bismack Biyombo. The Bobcats are in rebuilding mode and will look to get some kind of draft pick in any trade for Diaw.
Antawn Jamison
4 of 12The Cleveland Cavaliers are another team entering a rebuilding mode and looking to make moves with their expiring contracts.
Near the trade deadline last year it was rumored that Dan Gilbert and Co. were looking to send Antawn Jamison to New Orleans, among other places. Jamison played well last year and has some of the best trade value on a struggling franchise. Look for the Cavs to move him.
Andre Miller
5 of 12Although the Denver Nuggets recently traded for Andre Miller by sending Raymond Felton to Portland, he's not a long-term option for them.
The Nuggets are looking to rebuild a franchise after losing their superstar in Carmelo Anthony last year via a trade with the New York Knicks. The Nuggets probably acquired 'Dre to mentor young floor general Ty Lawson, who sources say Denver considers a cornerstone.
Miller's contract expires at the end of the season and adding his veteran leadership for the better part of the 2011-2012 to benefit Lawson is a good move. If Denver isn't able to package Miller for anything of value (read: draft picks) having his $7 million come off the books for next season is still a win for the Nuggets.
Rodney Stuckey
6 of 12The Detroit Pistons have a logjam at the point guard position and it only got worse after they drafted University of Kentucky star Brandon Knight in this year's 2011 NBA Draft.
Stuckey looks to be one of the most likely trade chips for Detroit as he's a serviceable, young point guard who still has time to grow and one that many teams would certainly entertain offers for.
Chris Kaman
7 of 12Trade rumors around Los Angeles Clippers center Chris Kaman seemingly surface every single year around the trade deadline.
This past season, Kaman was put on the trade block and on draft night he was rumored to have almost been swapped in a deal for Andre Iguodala from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Kaman is a great big man and for a team in need of an expiring contract or legitimate help in the middle, he'd be a perfect addition.
O.J. Mayo
8 of 12O.J. Mayo has been a sore spot for the Memphis Grizzlies as the former USC Trojans star has sat behind Tony Allen on the depth chart.
Mayo was almost shipped to Indiana at the trade deadline but the deal fell through at the last minute. Memphis doesn't seem to think that they need the scorer on their roster to move forward and will most likely move him before next year's trade deadline.
Any team picking up Mayo could score a real salvage deal. On a team where Mayo could thrive as a scorer and a ball handler his attitude may perk up. For some teams, that may be too big an "if".
Michael Beasely
9 of 12The writing was on the wall on draft night for the Minnesota Timberwolves' Michael Beasley when David Kahn took Derrick Williams as the second-overall pick in 2011.
Williams may end up being a franchise player, but more importantly he and Beasley will be competing for minutes if both remain on the depth chart.
With Beasley's recent arrest for possession of marijuana, it may be all that Kahn can do to swap him out of the North Star State.
Nate Robinson
10 of 12The Oklahoma City Thunder are a young team with tremendous talent and character. Nate Robinson, it seems, only has one of these traits.
With James Harden and Thabo Sefolosha both in front of him, Robinson doesn't expect to see much playing time on a team that made it to the Western Conference Finals last year without significant contribution from the one-time New York Knick.
Andres Nocioni
11 of 12The Philadelphia 76ers are a team in transition and have been looking to move Andres Nocioni for some time.
Since signing a $37.5 million contract with the Bulls in 2007, Nocioni has been a bit of a bust and until now, his trade value has be negligible.
Nocioni's contract comes off the books this year and would give significant cap relief under the new CBA. Philadelphia isn't looking to keep him around long term so expect to see him get moved before the year is out.
Mehmet Okur
12 of 12The Utah Jazz have a new head coach, a new shooting guard and an already-strong frontcourt combination of Derrick Favors and Al Jefferson.
Mehmet Okur was dead weight last year, spending most of his time on the bench due to injury. Okur is on the wrong side of 30 and has an expiring contract, making him a perfect candidate for a team looking to clear cap space.
The Jazz drafted Enes Kanter and looks to be the replacement for the aging Okur. The Jazz would love to move Okur, the only question now is how.
