NFL Trade Rumors: Is Albert Haynesworth Worth Anything Anymore?

Connor KillorenMay 31, 2018

Perhaps the most overpaid, unproductive player in the history of the league, many are starting to think that Albert Haynesworth isn't worth anything anymore.

He signed a seven year, $100 million contract with the Washington Redskins on the first day of free agency in 2009.

Since then, Albert Haynesworth has been nothing but a nuisance for the team.

The team is attempting to get rid of him, but other clubs are reluctant to take on his monstrous contract and a player who is a cancer in the locker room.

Aside from Albert Haynesworth, there are a number of veteran players who are likely to be traded at some point before a season starts.

QB Donovan McNabb

1 of 3

During his time with the Washington Redskins, Donovan McNabb has not been popular with ownership, the coaching staff or the fans.

At 34 he is past his prime as evidenced by head coach Mike Shanahan pulling him late in a game due to the fact that he didn't think Donovan McNabb was capable of giving the team a chance to win.

But why dump him after only one season?

CBSSports.com is reporting that Mike Shanahan's son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, does not like Donovan McNabb.

It remains to be seen if the team will trade him or simply release him.

It's a mystery if any team is willing to take a chance on an over-the-hill quarterback with a relatively pricey contract.

WR Chad Ochocinco

2 of 3

Chad Ochocinco's future in Cincinnati is uncertain, especially with quarterback Carson Palmer likely to never play another down for the team.

Because of that fact, Chad Ochocinco has been acting as if he is a free agent.

He does not believe he will be a Bengal when the season starts.

The Boston Herald is reporting that the New England Patriots may be a potential destination for Chad Ochocinco.

"

"There’s still the popular debate on whether the Patriots need a speed receiver or not. That began when Randy Moss was traded last season and continued in the loss to the Jets...As for Ochocinco, he’s not actually a free agent. But if he’s treating himself like one, why shouldn’t we?"

"

It seems as if the New England Patriots are searching for a player similar to Randy Moss. A game-changing type receiver who is a vertical threat for quarterback Tom Brady.

Chad Ochocinco's attitude doesn't necessarily mesh well with "The Patriot Way", but the same thing was said about Randy Moss and he worked out very well in Foxborough.

DT Albert Haynesworth

3 of 3

Once one of the most sought after defensive players in the league, Albert Haynesworth has become cold product.

The Washington Redskins want to dump him and his $100 million contract, but other teams are shying away from the prospect of giving anything up for him.

Albert Haynesworth has stated his dislike of playing in a 3-4 scheme, but has always desired to play in a 4-3 set.

That is where Albert Haynesworth will be most effective.

The question that must be asked is, which team is willing to take on his contract and rebellious personality?

Looks like we'll be finding out when the lockout is lifted.
